HAITIS FLAG DAY
May 18 is a very important day for Haiti. This is its Flag and University (Youth)Day.
In 1803, 208 years ago, Emperor Jean-Jacques Dessalines, one of HaitisFounding Fathers, decided to tear the
French Flag and to transform it into anational Flag (Black and Red) which hasbecome Blue and Red.

HAITIS FLAG DAYAND ITS LIMITS
- This was a critical step a glorious day in
Haitis walk towards political independence
on January 1, 1804.
- However, Haitis leaders have never sincesucceeded in leading the country towards
sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
- Haiti need to realize on the economical side
that it did on the political side since 1803

IDEAL TIME TO FOCUS AND
INVEST IN HAITI
One of my main arguments today is that this ispresently the best time for PR businessmen tofocus and invest in Haiti.
Haiti is at a turning point. There is a new government in this country
which want to breaks this traditional cycle ofeconomic decadence and unfortunate
developments exacerbated by earthquake, epidemics and precarious governance.

MICHEL MARTELLY S
COMMITMENT
In his installation message last Saturday,
Martelly forcefully said that:
1. Haiti is open for business with the world
2. He will strive to forge security in the country, protect
investors, and enforce rule of law
3. Haiti is not only a symbol of poverty but has a lot of
fantastic potentialities (tourism, craft, painting) and
perhaps the best, the most productive and youngest
workforce on earth

COMPLEMENTARY ECONOMIES
The Puerto Rico economies and Haitian
Economies are complementary
The Puerto Rican Economy is the most vibrant
economy of the Caribbean while the Haitian
economy is apparently the poorest one
A robust symbiosis between both economies is
possible

HAITIS ECONOMIC NEEDS
Haiti needs less and less international aid but
more and more investment in its housing
sector (given the Jan. 12, 2010 earthquake)
This country needs investment in revitalizingits agricultural sector
Its agro-industrial one

THE BARGE AND BEYOND
Last January 23, 2010, Puerto Rico sent a
barge of hope full of water and food to the
affected Haitian people (after Jan. 12)
The main message of this presentation is that
PR should go beyond this wonderful
expression of regional solidarity

CONTRIBUTION TO HAITIS REAL
TAKE OFF
New Haitian President Michel Martellyvigorously spoke during his message aboutthe pressing need for Haitis real take off.
The message of this presentation is that PR,the Puerto Rican business community cansignificantly contribute to this take off, should
it start doing that in a systematic way now.
