Preschool Rotations Conference Plan Purpose Statement This forty-five minute plan is designed to prepare preschool leaders for using LifeWay’s Journey Off the Map 3s–Kindergarten Rotation Pack. Resources to Collect 1. Welcome

Focal Wall Description ● Place VBS 2015 Rotation Signs on the focal wall.

Room Setup

● Set up a long table beside the focal wall and cover it with a VBS 2015 Tablecloth. Display the VBS Preschool Starter Kit and VBS 2015 3s–Kindergarten Rotation Pack, and Craft Packs on the table.

● Place chairs in rows. Decoration Suggestions

● Drape the VBS 2015 String Flags around the doorways and place the VBS 2015 Visual Pack, VBS 2015 Wall Art, and VBS 2015 Decoration Punch-outs around the walls and door.

Audio Visual Needs DVD player CD player Teaching Steps 1. Welcome (5 minutes)

● Welcome conferees to the Preschool Rotation Conference. ● Distribute a handout to each conferee. ● Say: “This year at VBS we are going to set out on a journey to a place no one has visited

before. For this adventure, we have a pack of ideas to choose from.” ● Show conferees the 3s--Kindergarten Rotation Pack. ● Explain how the Pack includes Teaching Plans for:

○ Music at Rushing Waters ○ Missions at Boulder Bridge ○ Arts and Crafts at Shady Grove ○ Recreation at Rappelling Ravine

● Briefly discuss how one Rotation Pack is included in each VBS 2015 Preschool Starter Kit.

● Share options and tips on using the Rotation Pack: ○ Rotation Options:

■ Teachers lead kids to each rotation, stay with them during the activities, and lead them back to the main classroom for closing group time.

■ Teachers are enlisted to come to the room to teach the rotation activities. ■ Children and teachers remain in the room for all activities.

○ Rotation Tips: ■ Locate rotation sites close to each other. ■ Maintain appropriate teacher/child ratios (1:4) when traveling to and from

rotations. ■ Use a walking rope or buddy system to keep kids together. ■ Keep the focus on the Bible story, Bible verse, Today’s Point, and Kid

Connection statements. ■ Each rotation should last 25 minutes, which includes time for transition.

2. Music at Rushing Waters (10 minutes)

● Say: “The first stop on our journey is Music at Rushing Waters.” ● Show conferees the Music Folder from the Rotation Pack. Explain:

○ CD in front contains 12 songs ■ Tracks 1-6 are stereo tracks ■ Tracks 7-12 are split tracks

○ Six songs: ■ Bible Verse Song ■ 3 songs to sing any and every day ■ Movement song ■ Theme Song

○ CD also contains 2 Print Resources (Enhanced CD) ○ VBS at a Glance gives overview of the week ○ The front of each teaching plan has Bible Verse, Today’s Point, and Bible Story

synopsis. ○ The back includes a teaching plan with instructions on how to teach the songs to

preschoolers. ○ Motions and words are provided in the back of the folder

● Say: “Let’s learn two of the songs you can use every day.” ● Invite conferees to stand and teach the motions to “No Matter What” (track 3). Ask

conferees to move and sing the song. ● Teach the motions to “God Will Be My Guide” (track 4). Ask conferees to move and sing

the song. 3. Missions at Boulder Bridge (10 minutes)

● Say: “The next stop on our journey is Missions at Boulder Bridge.” ● Show conferees the Missions Folder from the Rotation Pack. Explain:

○ 2 video segments featured each day ■ Eddie’s Journey: Eddie, a kid from California, and his friend Roddy

brought their friends and their parents home to meet Roddy’s brother, Paul, who was studying to be a pastor. What started out as a small group of people looking for answers has grown into a church called the “Be the Message Church.”

■ Gracie’s Journey: Gracie, her two sisters, and her parents who are missionaries in Lesotho (lih-SOO-too), Africa and minister to people who have never before heard about God or His Son, Jesus.

● Share information about the Mission Project ○ Allow kids to decorate and pack bags filled with “comfort items” for children in

traumatic or difficult situations. ○ Parent Letter is included to send home with kids on Day 1.

● Explain that each day’s teaching plans includes a Tongue Tangler or tongue twister. Invite conferees to find a partner. Ask them to each say the Tongue Tangler from Day 1: “No one knew, but now they know” several times to their partners.

● Show the Day 1 video segments to the conferees. 4. Arts and Crafts at Shady Grove (10 minutes)

● Show conferees the Arts and Crafts Folder from the Rotation Pack. Explain: ○ Share how each day’s teaching plan offers a Bible-related activity as well as

theme-related activities for a total of three activities. ○ Suggestions for a Free Art Center are offered each day. The Center allows time

for free-art expression and experimentation with a variety of art media. ○ Craft Packs available for:

■ Day 1 Journey Banner ■ Day 3 Dragonfly Clip ■ Day 4 Campfire Magnet

○ Teaching Plans also include a bonus three-day project: Batik T-Shirts ○ Several templates are also provided for the other activities. ○ Teaching plans are full of Survival Tips to help leaders every step of the way.

● Point out the Arts and Craft samples available. 5. Recreation at Rappelling Ravine (10 minutes)

● Show conferees the Recreation Cards from the Rotation Pack. Explain: ○ 4 game suggestions each day ○ Administrative Cards at the end, including Leader Responsibilities, Kid

Characteristics, Teaching Tips, Decorating Ideas, and Free Play Ideas. ● Invite conferees to stand and play:

○ Survival Relay (Day 5) ■ Form two lines. Encourage conferees to find a partner within their lines. ■ Give bandanas to the first pair in each line. Explain that they will hold the

bandana between them, run to the pile of gear, place one item in the bandana, and run back to the team.

■ Guide the first pair to drop the item they brought back at the beginning of their line and to give the bandana to the next pair.

■ Continue until all the gear has been moved. Declare the first team to finish as the winner.

○ Show conferees the “Make the Point” statement on the back of each card. ○ Invite a conferee to read the statement for Survival Relay aloud:

■ What kinds of items did you carry in the relay? These are items you would

need if you were exploring a new area. God took care of Daniel and made sure he had everything he needed. God will always take care of you and give you what you need, too!

○ Bug Blaster (Day 5) ■ Ask conferees to hold the edge of the parachute. ■ Lead conferees to pretend one of the soft balls is a bug from the forest

around your tree house. Explain that conferees will keep the bug moving by shaking the parachute.

■ Add in other balls or challenge conferees to shake the parachute so hard that the bug flies off the parachute.

■ Add in the Giant Inflatable Game Cube. Invite conferees to try and make the game cube fly off the parachute.

■ Ask one conferee to read one of the tips aloud on the game cube and toss it back into the parachute. Play until each of the tips has been read aloud.

○ Invite a conferee to read the “Make the Point” statement for Bug Blaster aloud: ■ Have you ever been afraid of a bug? What makes you afraid? God took

care of Daniel and He will always take care of you, too. You don’t have to be afraid.

6. Conclude the Journey

● Thank conferees for helping kids on their journey through music, games, missions, arts and crafts, activities, and, fun!
