My proposal for Pejabat Agama Klang is to turn it into a preschool that will benefit the community around that particular area. There is a primary school nearby which will have aided the development of the preschool. By developing a preschool in the area, children from age 5-6 or earlier can have proper education as a preparation to be enrolled into primary school.

Jalan Dato Hamzah, where Pejabat Agama Klang is situated on, is a one way circulation encouraging cars to go in the proposed site through the front gate. After the parents have picked up their child, they can go out through the back gate. Thus, ensuring smooth circulation in the school compound.

My precedent study for my proposal is Ekya’s earlier project at Kanakapura Road. It was an abandoned factory turned into a preschool for Montessori and Kindergarten environment. One of the reason this precedent study is chosen is the project fitting the requirement of the Montessori brief and an different experience in a city. The primary objective was to provide a constant interaction between students and nature.

The preschool in India is naturally ventilated and lightened up by sunlight which can also relate to our proposed site that has many window openings on each wall making sure that the interior spaces have sufficient natural light coming in.

To introduce interaction between children and nature, four major access points are created in the building which is also similar to our site. The four access allow children to go in and out of the building easily without feeling confined.

Proposed Space – Learning Environment

One of the space proposed is the learning environment. The spaces must be naturally ventilated and have sufficient lighting.

Children are constantly moving around so they used up a lot of energy that will have generate heat making them become sweaty. Ventilation is a must to ventilate the learning space and to cool the kids down.

Besides that, students read a lot when they are learning to prepare themselves to study in primary school. Window openings at the proposed area (green) are sufficient to provide enough lighting for reading purposes.

The learning environment is an open space and the arrangement of furniture is adjustable according to the requirement of the particular subject.

The younger children enjoy learning on the floor and they are taught to put the things or equipment back to where they are.

Older children have their learning sessions in a more proper room with tables and chairs so that they can adapt to a more proper education.

The learning environments are situated at the back of the building and on the first floor to prevent distraction from other spaces.

Proposed Space – Art and Craft Room

Art and craft room is a space that allows children to get their hands dirty and let their imagination flows.

Little tables and chairs are provided so that they will not get paint all over their clothes.

Sharing sessions can be held to talk about their artwork. The student can sit together in a circle and learn about each other more.

Moreover, students that are more creative can be encouraged using presents by competing among their friends.

The good artworks can be shown on the wall for the parents and other staffs to look at.

Art and craft rom is located just beside the learning space because students can just go to the next room to make handcraft they are interested in.
