About the PQA:“The PQA was developed by the HighScope

Educational Research Foundation based on Michigan’s Early Childhood Standards of Quality for

Prekindergarten and is the program evaluation tool for GSRP. Findings show that the practices assessed in the PQA, regardless of the curriculum or program in which they are used, are positively and significantly

associated with children’s development.”

Why is the PQA beneficial for you?

Things to Know…Some PQA Items require specific background knowledge in order to effectively score them so, here’s the inside scoop.

I-E Classroom areas and materials are systematically arranged, labeled, and accessible to children.

Row 1: All areas will be checked

Row 2: Containers and shelving must be labeled to score a ‘5’

II-A Adults establish a consistent daily routine. Children are aware of the routine.

Row 2: Examples must be heard from both adults and children. At least 3 examples from a combination of adults and children must be recorded to score a ‘5’.

II-I During transition times, children have reasonable choices about activities and timing as they move from one activity to the next.

Long waits should be reflected

Row 2: Adults let children know transitions are coming. At least 3 examples must be recorded in order for a ‘5’ to be scored.

Row 4: Adults plan ways for children to make transitions. More than 1 example must be recorded to score a ‘5’.

Let’s Score One TogetherIII-M Adults involve children in resolving conflicts
