Dr. Perry C. McCallen
Message from Perry Greetings Friends!
The following is an excerpt from my new devotional book, Daily Encouragement from God, that will be coming out on Amazon and eBooks in February. May God greatly bless you and your family in 2015!
Psalm 1:1-3
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves
never whither, and they prosper in all they do.
My dear child, you have prayed to me so many times with a heavy heart of regret saying, “If only I had done this or not done that.” There is a part of you that yearns for another chance to do things differently … to make things right.
Well, I have good news for you. This is a new year and an opportunity for a fresh start! I am the God of transformation. Your dreams will be realized this year. Your dreams for a more fulfilling life will come true. There is only one condition. Your dreams for yourself must be in keeping with my dreams for you.
You say, “Well, how can I know your dreams for my life?” One of the most frequent prayers I receive comes from people desperately wanting to know my will for their lives. They seem to think that I operate on the basis of some mystical unveiling of my guidance. The reality is that my dreams … my plans … for your life are readily made available to you on the pages of my sacred Scriptures.
I am going to make you a guarantee on the first day of this new year. If you pour your heart and mind into a daily prayerful study of my Word, you will be like a tree planted along the riverbank. This year you will yield much Spiritual fruit. This year you will prosper!
In the Spirit,
Perry

Church in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Michael works at TVA and Mary Lynn
works as a registered nurse and a consultant in health education.
Parents: If your child needs chapter books for school reading, check the church library
for old classics and newer finds. Find them toward the left under the windows. On the
shelves toward the right there is also an extensive collection of biographies of noted
Americans from the past. Please check out a book by signing the card in the back pocket
and putting it in the box by the door.
The good news is, the country’s economy is growing
stronger every day. The bad new is, not everyone is bene-
fitting from this rising tide. Many people are still strug-
gling to keep their financial lives afloat, so much so that,
when an unexpected expense arises, they find themselves
in serious danger of sinking.
It is for just such a situation that the Deacons’ Fund of
Second Presbyterian was established.
Thanks to the generosity of this congregation, the fund has grown over the past
year and stands ready to be used by members of our church family and those who
are longtime friends. The process of obtaining assistance is simple and complete-
ly confidential. A conversation with your Deacon expressing your need will be
shared with Dr. McCallen, who decides if the request fits the fund’s parameters.
Funds dispersed are not loans; they are gifts given with love to and by members
of Christ’s family.
By action of the session, the collection taken on the third Sunday in January is
now dedicated to the Deacons’ Fund. When the offering plate is passed on
January 18, please give generously to ensure its continued health.
Members of the Board of Deacons will meet at 7:00 PM
on Tuesday, January 20 for a planning session. The
meeting will take place at the home of Marcia Kling,
1007 Mt. Vernon Ave., and will include the election of
officers. Please call Marcia, 756.3890, if you are unable
to attend.

Youth : Take a second look ******************************************************
Another New Year!
These last few months have
been joyful for me. I hope
each of you has also experienced that joy. We have
had new members, new babies, and new songs
from our children.
As I mentioned in my last note, the music program
is improving. No doubt that was obvious
December 10, when we had our program in the
sanctuary. Many thanks to the parents for having
the children here for practice. This program
showed our talents and potential. “Thank you” to
all our choir members. You looked angelic in your
choir robes. Our Lessons and Carols program was
also a good experience. We are learning to worship
in song with the big folks. Thank you Dr. Ford for
your support in this endeavor.
We are a work in progress in our
children’s programs, from nursery
to 5th grade. Please continue to
pray for and respond to being
called upon for help in the coming
year.
Love in Christ,
Linda May

Wonderful Wednesday
Wonderful Wednesdays will resume on January 14. David Franklin will
present a series called "Great Figures of the New Testament" and on each
Wednesday night, we will view a DVD about one of these "Great Figures" followed by a brief discussion
afterward. This program is based on a series of DVD lectures by Professor Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt
School of Religion. Look for each week’s “great figure” in the Sunday bulletin!
A new year begins! I pray that 2015 will be a year of learning, spiritual growth and fun for our youth at Second Pres! Congratulations to Suzanne and
Rick Rushworth on the birth of
their granddaughter, Clara Joy, on
December 19!
As we approach the winter months,
don’t forget that the church office
follows the Hamilton County
School system’s inclement
weather closings and delays. These
are broadcast on all major TV and
radio stations. Thank you!
Treasurer’s Report Greetings:
Presbyterian Women would like to wish the congregation and their families a very Happy New Year.
We would also like to thank the congregation for their generosity during recent offerings. The Partnership
Offering yielded $214.00. The Thank Offering and luncheon afterwards yielded $481.00 and $79.15,
respectively.
As moderator of the Margaret Winslett Circle, I would like to thank the congregation for their support of this
event. I would also like to thank everyone who helped with the dinner in any way, especially Stephanie Carney.
Please mark your calendars! The annual Ladies Luncheon will be held on Saturday, February 14. More details
will be forthcoming.
The Giving Tree will remain up through Christmas. We are collecting caps, scarves, gloves, and mittens for the
Northside Neighborhood House.
Have a blessed month,
Teresa Robinson
