TISAC Maths Relay Competition

On Friday 13th November, both Primary and Secondary

students attended the TISAC Maths Relay competition at Ascot International School. It was the perfect platform for

us to demonstrate the fantastic teaching and learning of Maths that goes on at Bangkok Prep. Both Years 4 and 5

stormed to 1st place in their categories, whilst our Secondary

team came in 2nd place, just one point behind the

competition, they contested admirably against older opposition; gaining much needed experience in the

build up to the FOBISIA competition in China next March 2016.

After School Activities for Primary School will be cancelled on Tuesday 24th November

As Key Stage 2 Sports Day takes place on Tuesday 24th November, all Primary After School Activities will have to be

cancelled on that day. Paid clubs including Chess, Mosaic Art, Phonics and Sewing Soft Toy will be rescheduled on Tuesday 8th December. There will be no make-up classes for clubs that are free of charge.

The latest SEND statistics 2015

Last week, the Department for Education (DfE) released its annual "Special educational needs: an

analysis and summary of data sources".

It's a summary of various sources of statistical data

relating to SEN, pulled together in one handy document with links to the relevant information

from whence it came. Despite it being a rather dry title, therein lies some fascinating information,

including a summary of Tribunal statistics, absence

and exclusions, attainment and progression and current experience of the new SEND system.

PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

Dear Parents,

Throughout November we have been focusing on Internationally Mindedness. During this time, teachers and children have been talking about how important it is to appreciate different cultures

and religions. We have been taking time to celebrate the wonderful cultural diversity of our Bangkok Prep community.

Charity events help children understand how their actions, no matter how small, can actually have a direct and positive impact on

people’s lives. These acts of charity can influence the lives of people in the local area and people in countries from around the world. It

is essential that young children grow up understanding that their actions are important and they can really make a difference.

As you will see from this week’s Prepazine, there have been significant Bangkok Prep successes in many areas of the curriculum and we are all very proud of what are children

are able to achieve. The conditions for success are by no means accidental and the staff, in partnership with parents, at Bangkok Prep are committed to making sure the children in our

school flourish.

Please continue to communicate with me about any creative ideas you may have about the school and let me know what

we do well so we can maintain the schools effective progress.

Christmas Planning in Nursery

In Nursery, we are preparing for our Christmas show and starting to think about some ‘Frozen’ and Christmas activities to

do in class. We dream to create a fantastic igloo to play with in the classroom and we have asked the Eco Team to help us build it out of recycled bottles. At present, our igloo is very much ‘under construction’ and we are asking for more plastic

bottles to be donated to help us complete our igloo in time! If you have any bottles, please bring them directly to Nursery

or place them in the labelled bin at the bottom of the main stair case. Please help us make our dream igloo come true!

Year 5 Residential Trip

The Year 5 residential trip to Kaeng Krachan was a blast and the students and teachers had an absolute ball!

Our first activity on the trip was rafting. The children were put into groups of 7 students per raft, supervised by one

teacher. The students enjoyed paddling and deepening their understanding about rivers. Many of the groups even had a few water fights which allowed the students to get revenge on their teachers.

On the first evening after dinner, the students were asked to go on a night hike where they learned about adapting their

eyes to the darkness and listening to sounds carefully. It was surprising to see how many students enjoyed the activity and

felt comfortable in a dark environment.

The next day's highlight was the animal rescue centre and the fire building activity. The students absolutely loved feeding the elephants and learning about all the different types of animals rescued including Iguanas, Gibbons and Macau's.

Although it was a very hot day, the fire building was a real treat for the students. They enjoyed collecting kindling and learning how to build a real fire and use matches. Cooking marshmallows at the end was really yummy too, especially for

students who have sweet tooth!

Overall the trip was a huge success and the Year 5 teachers would like to thank parents and staff for helping students

prepare for the trip and organise the programme.

Year 6 Transition Lessons

On Wednesday 18th November, Year 6 had transition lessons in the Secondary School. The three lessons that we did were

Maths, English and Science. We went to each classroom and learned about new things.

In Maths, we learned about measuring angles accurately by using a protractor and bearings. Bearings are used by measuring angles to find our destination if you are lost somewhere.

In English, we studied a poem about the sea and after that we had to make a model of an image from a poem. We used

play dough to make it, so if we made a mistake we could rebuild it again.

In Science, we learned about PH in different liquids. There were lots of different types of liquids to test: Coke, lemonade,

soap, stomach medicine, sugar water, salt water and washing powder. Then we used the Universal Indicator to find their PH.

During break time, all of Year 6 enjoyed spending time with their Year 7 buddies and hearing about how they enjoy Secondary School.

We learned so much and had a great time!

SECONDARY SCHOOL NEWS

Dear Parents,

If you were on the fifth floor of school this week you might have wondered at the Christmas

music loudly emanating from all our large areas as House Leaders lead students in the preparation for our Term 1 finale in the House Christmas Sing-Off. There will be three aspects to

the competition; a whole House performance of a well known Christmas song, a small group performance of a Christmas ‘pop’ song and the construction of an eco-friendly Christmas themed

sculpture made from recyclable plastics. Students have shown themselves to be very creative and competitive this Term and it has been a challenge to ensure the tasks are varied enough to

stretch all students.

Competition continues elsewhere for our students this weekend as 30 students and teachers take

part in the U15 FOBISIA Games. On Thursday morning, the students were excited at the lure of victory before them and I am sure we will have cause for celebration upon their return. However, key to being a good

competitor is the ability to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. If our students can learn something of themselves in competition this weekend I believe they will all return winners. I wish them a good competition that rewards all their

hard work and the commitment of their coaches.

On Thursday afternoon, we welcomed a number of parents to our Year 12 Certificate Presentation, led by Mrs Wilsonlock

and ably assisted by Khun Amm. Our Year 12 students were presented with their hard-earned I/GCSE certificates by Mrs Thomas-Peter and student representatives good-naturedly laid down the challenge to Year 11 and Year 10 to better them

in the coming years! Between them our students have over 300 I/GCSE certificates and I congratulate them for their achievements.

PE NEWS

Swim Meet

Over this past weekend 53 swimmers from Bangkok Prep

attended the very competitive meet at ISB. This event had

1000 swimmers and showcases the cream of scholastic swimming in Bangkok. Our Bangkok Prep Bulldogs team

performed exceptionally well, and the team placed 6th overall from 20 schools. Many personal bests and

subsequently school records were smashed and our team showed that they have been well coached and prepared by

Coach Michael. Every swimmer performed at their best and

even more noticeable was how they bonded as a team and enjoyed experiencing the high level of competition together.

Some notable achievements were:

Pawpeang Scales (Coco; Year 3) – Girls 8 & under champion

Dean Vasarchanond (Year 8) – Boys 11-12 runner up

Jee Won Song (Jenny; Year 5) – Girls 9-10 third place champion

The future of the Bangkok Prep Bulldogs team is very bright with our 'baby' Bulldogs who gave us our most

exciting finish right up to our Senior Boys and Girls who swam against probable Rio Olympians.

There were amazing efforts from every swimmer and

the whole school community is very proud of them and

appreciates the early mornings that they rise and the kilometers that they swim every week.

Football

What a fantastic performance we witnessed at the Harrow Youth Cup

last weekend.

Our under 13s, led by the sublimely talented Jayden Cox (Year 8), triumphed in dramatic style. Having topped their group, winning 6-1

against the football academy of Can You Kick It, 2-1 against ISB and 5-0 against host, Harrow, they went on to beat another football academy,

iplay, in the semi final.

They then faced ISB, a school known throughout Thailand for their

football programme, again in the final. Thanks to a last minute equaliser from Viraphoom Premsaccha (Boom; Year 8), the game went

into sudden death. Captain marvel Jayden was the hero, once again, as

he finished off a fantastic move, instigated by Sahasawat Ariyanon (Perth; Year 8), to seal a dramatic win.

Considering the strength of the opposition, including a number of BISAC schools and football academies, this was a

remarkable achievement. Our boys revelled in their 'underdog' status and swept all others aside with their exciting brand

of passing football.

The under 11s also did our school proud. Despite facing a host of strong teams, they managed to make the final. However, after a long, tiring day, they finally ran out of steam and succumbed to an excellent Harrow team in the final.

Well done, boys. A truly epic success.

U15 Girls Basketball

This season, the girls have done a phenomenal job. Although we didn't have a

good start to the season, we learned from our mistakes and managed to win the league. We improve each time we play together and the most important thing

that we've learned in the season is: we are stronger together and we win as a team! Special mentions to Savannah Smith (Year 10) for the most points scored

and Salin Prathuangsit (Kitty; Year 10) for the most fouls! Our best and most important match was against SIS: the deciding match. Nafisa Singhsachathet and

Amelia Cotterill (both in Year 9) did an amazing job defending and intercepting

passes from the other team. Not to mention Savannah with all her 3 pointers. With the other girls supporting them on the court, we were able to announce our

victory! Thank you to Marimo Kobori (Mari; Year 10) for sacrificing herself in the match against Regents, her shots helped us win that match. Along the way to

victory, we've become closer and had new members joining the team. I'm very

proud of all the girls who participated and gave their best in every game. In addition, a new record was made; in the match against Charter, the overall fouls

made from our team was 1! Well done girls! Finally, I would like to thank everyone who supported us and for all the teachers who have coached us this

year: Mr Lowe, Ms Wright, Mr Owen and last but not least, Ms O'Higgins. Your advices have helped us overcome the obstacles which lead us to victory! Thank

you for everything you've done for us this year!

FOBP NEWS

Dear Parents,

Christmas Bazaar: Thursday 10th December from 2.00pm – 5.00pm

Planning is on the way for FOBP’s 5th Christmas Bazaar on Thursday 10th December. All tables have been booked and those participating should have all received an email with further notice and instructions regarding payment and set up.

Kindly asking all parents to make some time to drop by and get some shopping done, whilst allowing your children to “shop” as well at their fellow students boots. It promises to be a creative and fun event.

Funky Friday on December 4th from 2.30pm – 3.30 pm

With the holiday spirit slowly creeping up on us, FOBP has decided to allocate all funds raised on our Funky Friday on Friday 4th December to The Camillian Social Center Rayong. We have been in touch with father Giovanni who

requested gifts for 60 disabled children currently living at the home. We would like to donate a goody bag to each child as

well as some extra funds for them to use in whatever area they feel is necessary. If you look at their website, you will see help is needed in lots of places. Here is the link to their website: http://www.camillianhomelatkrabang.org

With regards to the goody bags, it’s a mixed age group but Father Giovanni said they have mostly mental problem so

bigger toys for young kids would work best – soft animal toys, dolls, plastic cars

and trucks are fine for all. We kindly request for new rather than second hand toys. We thought it is a good idea to add some healthy juice packs as well as

snacks the kids will enjoy.

FOBP kindly requests all parents who would like to help out, to donate the goods in the week of Funky Friday in the big boxes that you will see at the entrance of

the school. We will accept cash donations as well and will have a donation box

As you all can see your FOBP Committee has been keeping busy whilst enjoying the social interaction with other parents

and the school. Unfortunately we have some members moving back home over Christmas as well as some in the summer.
