EuPA publication alternatives:

Three alternatives:

• Public Library of Science (PLoS)

• Wiley-VCH

• Elsevier

3. EuPA communication and publishing:Dimitrios Noukakis - Jesus Jorrin Novo

EuPA publication alternatives:

Public Library of Science (PLoS)

• PLoS will not launch new journals except PLoS One. It is an online-only journal. The peer review process will consist only of commenting on the technical aspects of the paper. Readers will be able to comment, annotate ...etc, very much like book reviews in Amazon.

• Rather than create new journals, PLoS will develop sections/portals for specific areas, eg. "Genetic Association, "EuPA". Portals will fulfill the function of specialist journals, in that they bring papers together in one place. Potential launching in 2007.

EuPA publication alternatives:

Wiley-VCH• Wiley are ready to launch a new PROTEOMICS sub-journal, called PROTEOMICS Proceedings. This will be the publication platform for proceedings papers worldwide, i.e. not exclusive for EuPA but also open for proceedings papers from other HUPO sub-organizations (e.g. AOHUPO, KHUPO).

• The Siena Organisers have decided to go forward with this option to publish the Siena proceedings. DH, LB and JCS will be the guest editors of this first issue (February-March 2007) and will thus be the first one to test this option. Wiley agreed to publish 30 papers (up to 7 pages) for free.

EuPA publication alternatives:

ELSEVIER• Two options are proposed by Elsevier for this partnership to take form

with EuPA:1. New Journal, tentatively called “Journal of Proteomics”,

published by Elsevier on behalf of EuPA.2. Re-launch and rename an existing journal, published by Elsevier

with strong involvement from EuPA.• In case of launching a new journal, complete ownership and editorial

policy would retained by EuPA. In case of re-launching of an existing journal, ownership will retained by the publisher but EuPA would have editorial control.

• Financial matters have not yet been discussed in detail but whatever the option chosen, it is understood that EuPA will get financial incentives

Launching a new title: Journal of Proteomics

• Complete editorial control over the Journal of Proteomics will be held by an Editorial Committee as appointed by EuPA;

• Complete ownership of the Journal will be retained by EuPA, whereas Elsevier will retain full copyright of published content (to allow efficient copyright protection);

• The Journal will be published initially at 6 issues per year in 600 pages maximum, with the aim to expand to monthly. Parties will agree each year on required issues and pages in subsequent years;

• The subscription rates and conditions of sale of the Journal worldwide will be determined by Elsevier, in line with its overall pricing policy and with market developments. However, Elsevier will consult with EuPA concerning subscription price changes.

• Elsevier will distribute complimentary printed copies of the Journal, on behalf of and enhancing the visibility of EuPA, up to a maximum of 100 collaborating faculties/institutions, editorial board members, EuPA officers and other VIPs as nominated by the EuPA.

Launching a new title: Journal of Proteomics

• Print subscriptions can be converted to online subscriptions at any time, however, print will initially help establish the new journal.

• Elsevier will offer the journal online at a Personal rate to individuals belonging to EuPA via their national society, at rates determined by Elsevier in close consultation with EuPA. A rate of 50 euro is proposed for 2008.

•Elsevier will make a financial contribution towards covering the editorial office costs to the Editor-in-Chief, and increase annually to reflect inflation and increased workload.

• Elsevier will publish the Journal of Proteomics on behalf of EuPA as of the 2007 subscription year, with a multi-year contract from January 1st, 2007 to December 31st, 2017. The contract will be automatically renewed for five-year periods unless written notice of cancellation is sent by either party one year prior to the expiration of the relevant term.
