NOT FOR T H E FAINTHEARTED Fame is different for all people. To some, it’s the flash of cameras, the thrill of getting noticed, the sound of background whispers wherever they go. Others prefer their success quiet. In the Auris, no such luck.

It’s designed to show off. From front to the back: Front fog lamps on the XS and XR models, a more aggressive looking grille, side lines that run sinuously along the whole vehicle. A beautifully designed rear rounded off with sporty-styled tail lights. To get where you need to go, the Xi, XS, XR and XR CVT models have stylish 16" alloy wheels.

The overall elegance of the vehicle is evident at first sight. On closer inspection more is revealed. Like the door handles and front and rear bumpers – colour-coded on all models. And the electrically adjustable exterior mirrors with integrated side indicators. To keep your business under wraps, there’s also privacy glass on the rear side windows of the XS and XR models.

NOTICED AT EVERY TURNYou’ll never be able to slip away unnoticed again. Beneath the bonnet of the Auris, Optimal Drive engines deliver with efficiency and ease. The 1.3 engine offers power of 73 kW @ 6000 r/min and torque of 128 @ 3800 r/min. The 1.6 models move at 97 kW @ 6400 r/min with torque of 160 @ 4400 r/min.

In the Auris XR CVT, a system known as Continuously Variable Transmission makes going through the gears smooth and effortless. In all the other models, you have a full 6-speed manual transmission, just waiting for you to accelerate.

styling, inside you’ll find a work of quiet beauty.

Close-ups reveal a silver garnish around the instrument

panel and centre console. The XR models have sport

front seats with driver and front passenger heaters, as well

as a deluxe trim on the seats. All models have a Multi-

Information Display (MID) that shows the time, elapsed

driving time, trip fuel consumption, distance to empty,

average speed and outside temperature.

Air conditioning is standard in all models, while the XR

models have an automatic air conditioner with separate

controls for the driver and front passenger. The interior has

fantastic sound - the XS and XR models have a touchscreen

display audio with six speakers and Bluetooth, while the

X and Xi models have a radio/CD player with four speakers.

There is also an audio jack with a USB port in all models.

In the XR models you’ll find features such as cruise control,

Smart Entry and Push Start System, back monitor (also

available on XS model) and an electrochromatic interior

rear view mirror that automatically dims the brightness of

the lights of the vehicle behind you.

There’s no shortcut when it comes to safety. We’ve taken care of everything from the braking system (with Anti-lock Braking System, the Brake Assist System and Electronic Brake force Distribution) to driver, front passenger and side airbags, with additional curtain shield and driver knee airbags on XR models. For security there is a transponder key immobiliser and alarm.

TAKE NOTEPUTTING ON THE BRAKES

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS): The Anti-lock Braking System prevents the wheels from locking up and helps the driver retain control when the brakes are pressed in an emergency stop.

Brake Assist System (BAS): This activates at the same time as ABS. BAS ensures that the correct brake force is applied to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.

Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD): To ensure an even stop, this system senses the weight distribution across the wheels and applies the needed brake force to each individual wheel.

WHEN LOOKS MATTERThe shift of light as a pedestrian turns to stare at your magnificent vehicle. The sigh of pleasure as a stranger leans down to take a closer look in. It’s an Auris HSD, and it’s yours.

From the colour-coded door handles and exterior mirrors with integrated indicators, to the front spoiler, the Auris HSD is styled to make an impression. Both XS and XR models have daytime running lights as well as front and rear fog lamps. For a smooth drive, the XS model has 15" alloy wheels while the XR model has 17" wheels. To complete the look, the XR model boasts a panoramic sunroof.

The HSD is a system that can provide drive power from the petrol engine, the electric motor or both. The Auris HSD has three drive modes: ECO, EV (Electric Vehicle) and Power Drive Mode.

ECO drive mode: By reducing the function of the air conditioner, you opt for the most fuel efficient of driving modes. EV (Electric Vehicle) drive mode: The quietest drive with only the electric motor purring in the background. Power drive mode: The most responsive, ideal when driving up hills or on mountainous roads.

Both Auris HSD models are equipped with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) makes going through the gears smooth and effortless. CVT also offers better fuel consumption than a conventional automatic gearbox.

When on the road, the 1.8 l petrol engine offers power of 73 kW @ 5200 r/min and torque of 142 @ 4000 r/min. The electric motor offers power of 60 kW and torque of 207 Nm.

Doing your bit for the environment needn’t mean you should compromise on your security and safety.

For efficient braking, the vehicles are equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force distribution (EBD),

Analysts predict that in the future, Hybrid engines will be standard in all vehicles. BEHIND THE

SCENESOnce the doors of the Auris HSD are closed, the outside world recedes. The inner sanctum of the vehicle is quiet

and sublime. A stylish ice-grey combination leather finish accentuates the instrument panel and centre

cluster of the XR model. The seats are a soft combination leather in the XR model,

and fabric trim in the XS. Both models have a touchscreen display audio, Bluetooth and MID steering wheel switches

as well as Smart Entry and Push Start System.

Both models are well equipped with the following: automatic air conditioner, a back monitor, rain sensing wipers,

electrochromatic interior rearview mirror, an audio jack and a USB Port. Cruise control, front seat heaters, separate temperature

controls for driver and front passenger and seat lumbar support are only on the XR model.

To the relief of many, both the XS and XR models have the very useful Simple Intelligent Park Assist, helping one

into the tightest of spaces.
