Building Confi dence for life

Welcome to Bishop’s Stortford College Prep SchoolAt whatever age your child joins us, whether as a day pupil or as a boarder, our focus is the same: to ensure he or she is happy, enjoys learning and benefi ts from as many new experiences as possible.

Naturally, we aim for strong academic results, but your child will also devote plenty of time to sport, music, drama, art and a variety of other activities. This is the time in your child’s life for exploration and enquiry.

It’s the breadth of opportunity and the real interest the teachers take that has made her really happy Parent, FM2 pupil

That’s why every pupil in Form One (Year 5) has the experience of being taught a wide range of orchestral instruments in music lessons. It’s why your child will sample every activity from first aid to street dance over a two year carousel. Now is the time to try new things, to embrace opportunity and identify new talents. In this way your child will develop self-confidence and motivation which will lead to high standards and success.

It is just as important that your child develops a positive attitude to work, to life and to other people. Your son or daughter will be joining a community where staff and pupils share genuine respect for each other, where an awareness of the needs of others is prized and where people are generous with their time and support.

I hope you will come and visit us, to see whether Bishop’s Stortford College Prep School is the right place for your child to develop and grow.

The Prep School has far exceeded my expectations, because it is so friendly, and they make each child feel so special. The range of extra-curricular activities is way beyond what I knew they offered Parent, FM2 pupil

The standard of her school work has already risen, and she loves all the opportunities to do so many different things Parent, FM2 pupil

Every time I visit the school at things like the Carol Service I come home so pleased and thrilled with the school. Its standards are so much better than we could ever have imagined, and the staff instil such good values into the children Parent, L3 pupil

Since coming here, I have found people like me, people who want to work, and who thrive on challenge and new experiences. I have found that my talents are celebrated. They are the things that make me special. And as a result, my confidence in my own abilities has grown immeasurably Day girl, U3

Smooth transitionsA smooth passage through the different sections of the College is important. Your child needs to feel happy and secure at each stage to avoid a dip in learning or confidence.

Shell is the name we give to Years 3 and 4. It’s a two-year phase for pupils from 7 to 9 years old that provides a lovely stepping-stone into the Prep School. Your son or daughter will be based in a separate building with a learning environment and daily routine that is tailored to the needs of this age group. He or she will enjoy regular shared activities with older pupils and have access to all the Prep School facilities, such as the library, art rooms and drama studio.

Moving on from Shell, into Year 5 (Form One) your child will have specialist teachers for each subject. Your son or daughter will benefit from first rate facilities, teaching resources and opportunities as he or she starts to enjoy the wider College facilities such as the Design and Technology suite.

When the time comes to make the step up to Senior School at 13+ your child will be well prepared and already familiar with some of the staff thanks to linked academic programmes.

I was especially pleased with the way the children were all welcomed and made to feel important. Her form teacher is outstanding and so friendly Parent, FM2 pupil

Our community blends day pupils, full boarders, weekly boarders and flexi boarders (those who stay just a few nights a week). As a boarder your child will be in good company since around 60 Prep School children board each year.

We replicate home life as closely as we can, and do our best to ensure your child belongs and feels welcomed into the boarding family from the outset. That’s why one of the first things your son or daughter will do is add their handprint to the colourful mural in the hub of the house where children congregate to chat, share breakfast and do their homework. Cake and care are also lovingly dispensed there.

I think he has settled in really well, which has a lot to do with all the people in the boarding house who look after him Parent, L3 boarding pupil

Parental quote We certainly joined for the educational and intellectual variety and challenge

on offer, none of which have disappointed. However, the things one might not see or imagine are the extra curricular opportunities that broaden the horizons of children: the music, the school trips, the beautiful, traditional Carol service, the end of year celebrations of all children’s achievements... the list goes on
