description

As smart grid investments heat up in areas such as distribution automation, analytics, and meter data management, the global smart meter market still offers a significant revenue opportunity for smart meter vendors. Zpryme forecasts the global smart electric meter market to reach $10.7 billion by 2020. Annual growth will be relatively low between 2012 and 2020 (below 3%). By 2020, the global installed base of smart meters will be just under 1 billon. Smart meter heavy weights such as Itron, GE, Echelon, Sensus, Holley Metering, Silver Spring Networks, Landis+Gyr, and Elster are rapidly expanding into untapped markets in Asia and Latin America. However, the current market leaders will increasingly face strong competition from emerging players in Europe and Asia, which will likely drive down the per-unit cost for smart meters in the long-run. - See more at: http://etsinsights.com/reports/global-smart-meter-forecasts-2012-2020/#sthash.HLRWJHcC.dpuf
