nd Floor Session 2 – Phoenix Water Services Asset Management & WAM: Before implementing a

complex tool like Oracle WAM, it is important that an organization has a plan and purpose for that tool. The water department has a business plan that spells out strategies, objectives, and performance measurements. The asset management program is specifically addressing infrastructure reliability strategies, objectives, and performance. The asset management program seeks to maximize an asset’s useful life and plan for its replacement. With that in mind, WAM is not just data collecting tool without purpose but an important tool for an asset management program. This presentation will highlight how Phoenix Water Services Department uses WAM data to make important critical decisions as a utility. Kyry Tek, Civil Engineer, City of Phoenix

nd Floor Session 1 – Interfacing with WAM v2: Louisville Water Company (LWC) implemented 15

interfaces as part of their WAM v2.2 implementation. This session will explore how LWC built their interfaces. All interfaces have custom logic/code and there are many places (WAM, SOA, Edge system) as to where to build the custom code. This session will review the places where custom code can be used to extend a WAM interface or to build something from scratch. We will also discuss the tools and skill sets required to build an integration.

Then we will discuss the differences between integrating WAM v2 and WAM v1.9 as the integration framework in WAM v2 is very different than v1.9. This session will outline the WAM V2 integration methodology. It will include sections on SOA, Framework, SQL, Synchronous, Asynchronous and the WAM-ERP connector library. This session will include interface examples from the Louisville Water Company. Blake Steenbergen, Oracle Systems Administrator, Louisville Water Company Craig Kunzel, EY

8:30am – 9:30am Breakout Sessions: Texas 5/2

nd Floor Session 2 – Asset Criticality: How well do you know your numbers? The City of Phoenix

Water Service Department Asset Management has five key elements: Asset Registry, Asset Maintenance, Asset Risk Assessment, Asset Life Forecasting, and Performance Metrics. These elements have effects on each other. This presentation will focus on a key component of all five elements, Criticality. Questions came up during the process of assigning criticality. What is asset criticality? How do we come up with an asset criticality rating scale? Does this scale work for Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, and Remote Facilities? Who will do the rating of assets? Ok, now what? This presentation will go through the process the Water Service Department is creating and assigning asset criticality. I will demonstrate how criticality is a key component in the five elements of the City of Phoenix Water Service Department and support the mindset to do the “Right Work for the Right Asset at the Right Time.” Vincent Moreno, Principal Engineering Tech, City of Phoenix

upgrade a legacy EAM solution to WAM 2.2 and MWM 2.3. Effective enterprise-wide asset management will enable Icon Water to plan for and respond to future demands and changes in the operating environment. To achieve this objective, Icon Water is reassessing, redesigning and upgrading its asset management software, processes and practices. 11:00am – 12:00pm Breakout Sessions: Texas 3/2

nd Floor Session 2 – Asset Management Modeling Implementation/Data Synch Between WAM

& PowerPlan Asset Modeling Platform: Successful asset management programs are dependent on robust collection, sharing, and analysis of data. Utilities often face the challenge of implementing the data framework needed to move to an analytics-based management model. Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) faced that challenge head on in the implementation of its Asset Management program. The integration of the CMMS system and an asset management-modeling platform was a significant challenge to overcome with the vast amount of data needed to support the analysis of an asset portfolio close to 1 million assets in size. WSSC collaborated with PowerPlan to implement an Asset Modeling platform that utilized Oracle WAM as the system of record for asset data. The project included the use of PowerPlan’s sync engine to build an asset hierarchy and import operational data needed for asset strategy implementation. This presentation will outline the annual sync process used to update the Asset Decision Support platform from WAM and how WSSC utilizes the platform to implement its asset management strategies for OPEX and CAPEX budgeting. nd Floor Session 3 – Tracking Lead Taps Using WAM 1.9: We have a custom form to track tap

work. A new requirement is to get the actual customer address which must be verified against the centerline table from GIS. In order to make this feasible, we implemented an AJAX style lookup for the address field in our custom form using combo box package in Oracle Forms. We also set up a monthly Crystal Report run that queries all of the reports from that month and a batch job that creates a monthly work order with the report as an attachment. Rick Schomaker, City of Columbus & Bernard Schubach, Resource International, Inc.
