LIFTING LEVELS FOR PRECIOUS METALS

The first step to any VIVIDS creation

is lightening the hair! Think of it like a magnetic reaction.

When you lift the hair, you create

a positive charge!

Lightening the hair creates

a NEGATIVE CHARGE!

VIVIDS are a cationic

dye system with a POSITIVE CHARGE.

» When your client is naturally as light as the

suggested level of lift, the hair will still require

the use of PURE LIGHT Power Lightener to

create the perfect canvas.

» Applying PRAVANA PURE LIGHT Power

Lightener mixed with Zero Lift Developer for just

a few minutes will open the cuticle, allowing the

VIVIDS and EXPRESS TONES color to adhere.

» If color is applied to the natural hair without

lightening, the shade will be correct, but the

color might not last as long as it would with

proper lightening.

INSUFFICIENTLY PRE-LIGHTENED HAIR

When preparing the hair to be pre-lightened, keep in mind: » If the hair is lifted past the recommended levels

and a VIVIDS shade is applied, a very bright,

almost neon version of ChromaSilk VIVIDS color

will be seen. Over-lightening the hair can also

result in shortening the longevity of VIVIDS and

the intended look will not be achieved. The

solution: always review and follow VIVIDS color

theory and the lightening guide.

» The lifting guideline exposes the right amount

of underlying pigment to give richness and

longevity to VIVIDS shades.

» When the hair has not been sufficiently lifted

and too much of the underlying pigment is still

present, it can alter the final result, sometimes

changing the color or making it appear muddy.

This will also affect the fade!

» For example, if you want to use VIVIDS Blue and

you have not sufficiently lifted through the yellow

in the hair there may be some green showing

through. As we know from referring back to the

color wheel, Yellow + Blue = Green.

Toning before VIVIDS will increase longevity compared to traditional lift, dry and deposit.

The ammonia-free EXPRESS TONES formula will slightly even out

the porosity in the hair without fully closing the cuticle like traditional

permanent color. Toning with PRECIOUS METALS will not only prep

the hair, but boost tonality in your final VIVIDS color, as well. This

work has been published in Modern Salon, BehindTheChair, Teen Vogue & many more.

Celebrity stylist Marcia Hamilton is known for her

ability to mesh old school beauty with top

minute trends and techniques. When Marcia

is not coiffing tresses in her Beverly Hills studio

salon, she can be found on various sets from

Los Angeles to Paris. Her passion for the craft,

art and beauty is visible in each project where

she contributes her skill and expertise to major

fashion and beauty brands including Chanel,

Marc Jacobs, PRAVANA, Target...

Colorist Sammi Wang began her 20+ year

career as a stylist right out of high school.

Her passion for coloring led her to experimenting

with her own techniques and formulas, which

is where she attributes to the true growth of her

craft. Through the evolution of social media,

Sammi believes that now is the best time to have

fun with her clients when it comes to color.

Apply EXPRESS TONES Smokey Silver to level 10 hair. Then layer ChromaSilk VIVIDS Smokey Silver on top to create this

majestically shiny Smokey Silver look. CREATE THIS STYLE! Take a 4” triangular section

on the right side then divided into 3 equal

subsections. • Using Detail Shine & Define

Polish, cornrow 1 subsection going downward,

then cornrow the 2nd subsection going

upward & the 3rd downward. Leave ends

of the cornrow loose • Mist hair with SUPER

SHAPE Hair Spray to set the rest of the hair.

NOTE: Because PRAVANA already has a violet based VIVIDS Silver, Smokey Silver is formulated as an ash base to give stylists true creative freedom.

Recreate this look with VIVIDS Moody Blue at base and VIVIDS Rose Gold

on mid-strand. Alternating every other

sections with VIVIDS Smokey Silver or VIVIDS Moody Blue.

Recreate this look by parting the

hair into 2 large sections, top half

and bottom half, which includes the

entire perimeter of the head. Apply

EXPRESS TONES Rose Gold from

scalp to ends to the entire bottom half

and perimeter. Then apply the same

formula to the scalp only on the top

half creating a 1-2 inch root. Process

for 15 minutes. Rinse and quickly tone

with EXPRESS TONES Rose Gold at

the mid-shaft and on the ends at the

shampoo bowl for 3 minutes.
