a competence centre at your service

Located in Normandy, on an industrial site of 8 hectares,

Techneau has developed internally all skills for design,

development, manufacture and commercialization of its

products.

Bi-component coating application unit

Chaudreau has been continuing its development to become within 12 years a major and well-known actor in the production of: • moulds for plastic and polyester industries,• hydraulic equipment (penstocks and flow controllers),• units for water pre-treatment and treatment,• floor equipment (manhole covers, stainless steel

siphons and gutters)

The production site represents 4500 m², it is equipped with 13 overhead cranes and is composed of:• 1 plasma cutting bench of 2 x 4 m• 1 CNC nibbler• 4 half cranes• 1 welding column & boom manipulator• 1 stainless steel treatment unit

Acknowledged industrial expertiseIn 1991 the Techneau adventure began focusing on the creation and development of innovative products destined for the water pre-treatment, pumping, and flow regulation sector.

In 1998, Techneau created the Plasteau company in order to jointly develop the production of rotomoulded polyethylene hollow tanks.

Specialized in the production of on-piece hollow bodies of large volume dedicated to the management and reclamation of rain water for the industry sector and local communities, Plasteau is equipped with 4 machines able to produce spheres of up to dia. 3.5 m.

The industrial boiler manufacturer, Chaudreau, was created in 2001. This allowed Techneau to industrialize its production tool, while keeping

flexibility on customization.

1.1. Scope of application

”This document applies to outdoor car parks (vehicles) and road networks (roads and motorways), where pollution is characterised mainly by suspended matter to which the majority (80%) of contaminants are attached. These structures are also able to capture long-term and accidental pollution due to lightweight liquids.”

1.2. Purification systemThe most frequently adopted purification system consists of treating rainwater at a fraction of the peak flow rate:• by using a calibrated threshold regulation chamber providing controlled flow rate to the stormwater treatment unit.• downstream of a stormwater basin with controlled upstream flow rate.

1.3. Sizing1.3.1. Nominal size

Depending on the location, rainfalls less than 16 mm/h represent 75% to 95% of rainfall volumes.Using continuous flow operation, rainfall of 16 mm/h, combined with a 90% imperviousness coefficient, produces an associated run-off flow rate of 40 L/s/ha, the value taken as treatment flow rate for a stormwater treatment unit. This threshold of 40 L/s/ha is used to treat:

• run-off water from the leaching phase (characterised by low flow rates and high concentrations at the beginning of the shower),

• a large majority (75% to 95%) of run-off water depending on the region.Given the characteristics of the contaminant loading coming from impervious urban surfaces, the hydraulic loading (or Hazen velocity) of a stormwater treatment unit is set at 2 m/h.

1.3.2. Storage volumes

Several hydraulic sizing criteria have been identified and defined, thus ensuring optimum treatment quality, particularly:

1.4. AccessibilityPriority is given to large-sized access with the following requirements:

• access to all chambers, complying with standard EN 476,• good access to the baffle plate section to facilitate cleaning of the baffles with inspection covers of minimum cross-

section 0.5 m² and minimum total opening surface area of 0.25 m² per linear metre of baffle blocks.

1.5. Structural stability and liningThe structural stability and requirements for materials and linings will comply with requirements defined in standards EN 858-1 and P16-454-1/CN.

The lack of a published standard covering particle settlement led the ISGH association to define a detailed Technical Charter, a true reference guide for the industry. This Technical Charter defines:

• a specific scope of application,

• a purification system,

• sizing,

• accessibility,

• structural stability and lining.

3. Hydraulic flow

TECHNEAU stormwater treatment units are manufactured either from welded steel sheet S235JR (standard EN 10025) with an interior and exterior bi-component epoxy lining, or from polyester.

2.1. Common equipment

From 2 to 5 cylindrical manholes for easy maintenance.A high capacity sand trap (2 m3/ha) to trap the maximum of floaters and heavy matter.A grille to capture floaters. Its mesh is smaller than the hydraulic diameter of the tubular cluster located downstream. An ® recycled PVC tubular cluster, inclined at 60° and removable, all specially developed by Techneau for this application.A high capacity sludge sump (3 m3/ha).A discharge baffle system splitting the hydraulic flow uniformly over the entire filter.Effluent collection channels (out of water when no water circulating).

2.2. Equipment specific to horizontal models

A 0.3 m2 hatch to inspect the sludge sump located below the filter.

One or more drainage columns for sludge, DN 100, on horizontal NH systems.

Techneau stormwater treatment units, made according to the charter, consist of 3 successive chambers:
