Dear Colleague,

Welcometothispreliminaryguidetothisyear’sPOWER-GENAsiaconference&exhibition.Ihopeitwillwhetyourappetitetowhatisinstorewhentheregion’spowerindustrymeets2-4OctoberinBangkok.

Although it is unusual for POWER-GEN Asia to remain in one location for two consecutive years, there is no better country than Thailand to do so, given its strong economy and the support the event enjoys from the local power industry. Once again, we can promise you the most comprehensive and valuable conference, exhibition and networking event serving the electricity generation industry. By co-locating with Renewable Energy World Asia, the event is easily the largest and most signicant gathering of power industry professionals in South East Asia.

A recent study predicts Thai energy demand to double in the next 25 years.

Despite the investment drive, Thailand is likely to remain a net energy importer for quite a few more years and its access to fuel sources remains a key issue, as does its policy of growing the alternative energy sector from 9.8 per cent of the energy mix to 25 per cent by 2021. Elsewhere in the region new opportunities are emerging as more attractive policy frameworks are developed in countries includingIndonesia,MyanmarandthePhilippinesandtheAdvisoryBoardforPOWER-GENAsiahasbeenkeentoreflectthisinthecontentpresentedatthisyear’sevent.

With a growing amount of investment being made in renewable energy technologies, the joint POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia event creates a joint forum addressing all the key issues across the entire spectrum of the power generation industry.

POWER-GEN Asia is about taking time out to meet your industry face-to-face, to discuss the issues of the day, become acquainted with new technologies and techniques and build the business networks that will open doors to new commercial and personal opportunities. The three days of POWER-GEN Asia offers all this through its comprehensive strategic and technical conference sessions, its vast exhibitionflooranditsvariousnetworkingevents.

This Pre-Show Guide contains the entire conference programme for POWER-GEN Asia plus the summary grid for the Renewable Energy World Asia conference, with all sessions across the six tracks open to registered delegates from both events. POWER-GEN ASIA INDUSTRIAL WATER DAY

Estimatessuggestthattheamountofwaterneededforglobalpowerproductionisexpectedtodoubleoverthenext40years.TheWorldEnergyCouncil predicts that by 2050, total power demand for water is expected to increase by 100 billion cubic meters.

Facedwithaboomingpopulationandassociatedpowerrequirements,Asiafacesalargechallengewhenitcomestowatersupplyforpowergeneration. China alone is expected to see its water demand increase by a further 15%. Cooling water, boiler feedwater and wastewater treatment all require increasing expertise and technical solutions to meet regulatory demands.

In light of this demand, the addition of an Industrial Water Day will be added to the POWER-GEN Asia 2013 conference line-up to provide information on this growing market.

The new conference sessions are designed to provide highlights of some of the leading Asian countries when it comes to water management. As well as an opening strategic session, a technical programme will demonstrate how the latest water technologies such as membrane bioreactors are being used in power generation.

09:00 - 10:30 SESSION 4: COUNTRY SPOTLIGHTS A regional overview of industrial water challenges focusing on power generation in Asia. Strategic presentations will provide an introduction to the water conference and address regulatory updates, privatisation progress and investment opportunities.

11:00 - 12:30 SESSION 5: INTAKE, COOLING AND BLOWDOWN TREATMENT CONSIDERATIONS

Open recirculating cooling systems may save more water compared to once-through systems, yet they are subject to more challenging treatment-related problems. This session will look at how water is introduced to power production, treated and then discharged.
