Athletic Considerations Only one athletic period at a time. There are tryouts for most sports. Some athletic programs begin in the

If you do not make the team, you will be placed in PE.

Often referred to as the IB Program Program with Academic Rigor For students who are University bound Has an emphasis in the humanities and as well as
the sciences Students may receive more than 24 college

Students can participate in extra-curricular activities – about 90% participate in band, athletics, choir, etc.

All Dual Credit courses: Are dependent upon enrollment and teacher availability Require college placement scores in reading, writing, and math

GPA and rank calculation. Follow application requirements. Grades continue on progress reports and report cards for eligibility purposes. Conference with your Counselor before deciding if Pass/Fail is right for you.
Pass/Fail is advantageous for only a small percentage of students
Schedule Change Policy
- Students must read and sign the KPHS schedule change policy.
- Student, parent(s), and teacher must conference before the schedule will be changed.
- A student may request a change in course level at the end of the 3 weeks, the end of the first six weeks, or at the end of the semester.
- June 6th is the last day to change schedules.

STAAR EOC is your graduation requirement
Replaces TAKS at all levels
•First implementation 2011-12
•Will be “significantly more rigorous” than TAKS (greater emphasis on alignment to college and career readiness)
What do we know about STAAR?
STAAR will focus on readiness for success in subsequent courses and, ultimately for college
and career readiness.
English: English I, English II, English III
Math: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Social Studies: World Geography, World
History, U.S. History
STAAR EOC
Rigor of Assessment• Increase in length at most grades and subjects• Difficulty will be increased by including more
rigorous (challenging) items• Rigor will be increased by assessing skills at
greater depth and level of cognitive complexity. (This will measure growth of higher-achieving students)
• Two writing tasks (including personal narrative, literary, expository, persuasive, and analytic)
• English STAAR EOC will be two days of testing

• STAAR EOC exams will count for 15% of the final grade for each course
• Individual course credit will be delayed until the completion of the STAAR EOC exam

• In order to receive a high school diploma, students must achieve a minimum score on each of the 12 EOC’s.
• There is also a cumulative score requirement for each student, but that standard has not been established by the State of Texas.
