ApproachBefore the Match: is at any time before the toss, not restricted to the day on which the toss is to take place.

Laws: The Umpires (3), The Pitch (7), The Wickets (8), Bowling, Popping and Return crease (9), Preparation and Maint of Playing area (10)

Day n to Previous Day

Acknowledge the appointment and seek particulars relevant to the match (Venue, Date, Teams, Partners, Scorers etc)

Connect with partner(s) and agree on the time to meet at the venue on previous day

Revise Laws and connect to public information relevant to the match / tournament

Previous Day

Meet partner as planned and jointly meet Match & Ground authority at the Venue – aim to establish rapport

Enquire about weather, Ground and Light conditions affecting Check facilities like drainage, Covers at disposal etc Verify stumps, bails and balls for compliance to laws Satisfy that the pitch and crease markings are in order Availability of rollers, Position of sights-screen Observe both teams during net practice wherever possible Convene a pre-match interaction with the Team management

in presence of both captains Have a good nights sleep

The Match DayUmpires to be present on the ground and report to

Ground authority at least 45 mins before scheduled start of the match.

Umpires to inspect the playing field and satisfy that conditions are fit for play to start

Meet the Scorers Ascertain if - Either conditions of G, W & L Or exceptional circumstances Mean that it would be dangerous or unreasonable for

play to take place (Safety of player or umpire)

requirement of lawsConduct of the game, implements and

Umpires shall ascertain hours of play and agree with captains

Balls to be used during the matchTimes and durations of interval for meals and times

for drinksBoundary of the field of play and boundary allowancesAny special conditions of play affecting the conduct of

the match – inform the scorers of the above agreements

Umpires shall agree between themselves and inform both captains and scorers Which clock or watch and back up time piece is to be used Whether or not any obstacle within the field of play is to

be regarded as boundarySeek List of nominated players from both
