Strategic Outlook & Strategic Planning Update

5

• A series of virtual brainstorming sessions were held after ICANN67 with several community stakeholder groups across the globe to help identify new trends, opportunities, and risks (two public sessions, as well as sessions with the GAC, SSAC, GNSO Council and the IPC).

• Approximately 80 community members participated. The inputs collected during these community sessions are available on the strategic planning page of icann.org.

• The next step in the Strategic Outlook process is underway. It consists of a trend analysis and impact assessment (under Board oversight), so that new trends can be factored into the annual iteration of ICANN’s planning.

• In conjunction with this work, Board discussions will continue, towards defining a light-weight and agile “rolling plan process” to allow for revisions of the strategic plan through its cycle.

Implementation of Recommendations – cont’d

12

• Given the complexities and interdependencies of these recommendations, it is critical to prioritize the implementation of these recommendations in the context of broader ICANN work

• The Board, org, and community have had several fruitful discussions on prioritization of work more generally, but also more specifically on the prioritization of these recommendations.

• The ATRT3, in its Final Report submitted to the Board on 1 June 2020, included recommendations on both streamlining of reviews and prioritization and resourcing of recommendations.

CCWG WS2 Update

14

• In May 2020, ICANN organization published a blog detailing the progress of its implementation work.

• Implementation of CCWG-WS2 recommendations is an important priority for ICANN org. For example, it is highlighted in the Five-Year Operating & Financial Plan that was approved by the Board in May 2020.

• ICANN org’s internal WS2 team is currently analyzing all recommendations, identifying work underway, establishing dependencies and timelines. Once completed this will be shared for community input.

• Considering workloads and budgetary constraints, ICANN org will consult with the community to prioritize WS2 recommendations vis-à-vis other ongoing work.

• Based on these discussions and within approved budgetary frameworks, ICANN org will provide the necessary facilitation and resource support to the community for proceeding with this aspect of WS2 implementation.
