Important Safety Information

Look for Safety SymbolThe SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL indicates there is apotential hazard to personal safety involved and extrasafety precaution must be taken. When you see thissymbol, be alert and carefully read the message thatfollows it. In addition to design and configuration ofequipment, hazard control and accident prevention aredependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence andproper training of personnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance and storage of equipment.

Be Aware of Signal WordsSignal words designate a degree or level of hazardseriousness.

DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous situationwhich, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. This signal word is limited to the most extreme situations, typically for machine components that, for functionalpurposes, cannot be guarded.

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous situationwhich, if not avoided, could result in death or seriousinjury, and includes hazards that are exposed whenguards are removed. It may also be used to alert againstunsafe practices.

CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situationwhich, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderateinjury. It may also be used to alert against unsafepractices.

Be Familiar with Safety Decals Read and understand information on safety decals in the

Operator’s Manual.

Read all instructions noted on the decals.

Avoid High Pressure Fluids Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin,

causing serious injury. If hydraulic fluid penetrates theskin under pressure, immediate medical attention isrequired. See a physician familiar with this type of injury

Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure beforedisconnecting hydraulic lines.

Predelivery1. Have tractor delivered to dealership that will be

operating sprayer.

2. Confirm row spacing.

3. Hook sprayer to tractor.

4. Install control switch boxes inside of tractor cab, androute power supplies to the tractor battery.

5. The following equipment must be connected to thetractor’s battery: Raven 440/450 Controller, FasseValve Hydraulic Control Box, and Optional FoamMarker Control.

a. To connect the Raven 440/450 Controller to thetractor battery, see the Raven Installation andService Manual.

b. To connect the Fasse Valve Hydraulic ControlBox to the tractor battery:• Use the 6-foot, two-wire red and black cable

to connect hydraulic controls.• Connect the red wire from each cable to the

positive terminal and the black wire fromeach cable to the negative terminal.

c. Use the 6-foot gray cable to connect the optionalfoam marker control to the tractor battery.

6. Mount radar gun to tractor frame if applicable androute cable up through cab. If using existing radar ontractor, install “Y” cable according to tractormanufacturer’s recommendations.

7. Connect all hydraulic hoses to outlets (refer to tractoroperator’s manual for designated outlet if equippedwith a hydraulic pump).

The hydraulic motor used on all liquid pumps is a 6GPM motor. If the tractor used on this sprayer doesnot have the capabilities to adjust the remotes to thisflow, then a hydraulic flow divider kit must beinstalled so that flow can be controlled and to preventoperating the pump at excessive speeds.

Place a stop in the neutral position for the tractorhydraulics so that the hydraulic lever can only bemoved to the float and down positions. Refer to thetractor’s operator manual on information for theneutral stop.

Damage to the pump will occur if the hydraulic lever isreturned to the neutral position while the pump is running.

8. Check all hydraulic functions of the boom/elevator.

9. With boom still unfolded, make sure boom locks areadjusted correctly to just clear the stops.

10. Fill sprayer approximately 1/2 full of water. Open tanksump valve and let water circulate throughout thesystem and check for any leaks.

11. Before installing nozzles, engage pump slowly andcirculate water through the system, then turn onboom valves individually to flush out the system.

On sprayers equipped with a hydraulic pump, startout with the hydraulic lever in the float position, andengage the pump by placing the lever in the downposition. Make sure the hydraulic flow control valve isset at a minimum flow.

12. After system has been thoroughly flushed, installnozzles and open boom valves again to checknozzle pattern across the boom.

13. Set the dead head pressure of the pump in thefollowing ways depending on how pump is driven.

Hydraulic Drive Pumpsa. To determine the correct flow rate to the

hydraulic motor, start out with the hydrauliccontrol valve set at a minimum flow, and thehydraulic lever in the float position.

b. Open up the sprayer control valve to itsmaximum setting. On the Raven 450 monitor, with the power switchon, the rate switch must be placed in the manualposition, and the increase/decrease switch mustbe pushed to increase for 10-12 seconds.

c. Start the tractor and engage the pump by placingthe hydraulic lever in the down position. Oncethe system builds pressure, speed up the tractorto normal operating speed.Shut off the boom section switches, and closethe agitation valve.

d. The pump is now at deadhead pressure and thehydraulic control valve must be adjusted up untilthe spray pressure reaches 80 psi maximum.Mark this setting on the hydraulic control valvefor future reference.

e. Open up the agitation valve.

Ace Pump Flow Limiter (Option)Refer to Figure 7

The flow limiter is a hydraulic device designed to shut offthe flow of hydraulic oil when a specified flow rate isexceeded. On tractors with load sensing closed centerhydraulic systems, this device limits the flow of oil to theAce motor and prevents failures.

Newer Case-IH, John Deere, New Holland, and CATtractors have a great potential to run motors beyondtheir rated speeds. Flows out of the hydraulic valves canexceed 20 GPM while the motors are rated at 4-11GPM. The flow limiter protects the Ace motor by shuttingoff on excess hydraulic flow.

The flow limiter should not be used on open center orpressure compensating closed center hydraulicsystems. The flow limiter should not be used with arestrictor orifice.

To Install Pump Flow Limiter

1. Install the flow limiter in the inlet port of the Acemotor.

2. Connect the hydraulic hoses so that the pump runswith the hydraulic lever in the lower/retract position.Connect return hose to Low Pressure Return Port, when available.

3. Shut off boom and agitation valves on the sprayer todeadhead the sprayer pump flow.

4. Adjust the flow control on the tractor to minimumflow setting (turtle).

5. Move hydraulic lever to the lower/retract position.

NOTE:Always shut the pump off in the float position. Thiseliminates high pressure being trapped in the returnline and protects hydraulic seals. Avoid returning theoil to the remote valve; use the Low Pressure ReturnPort, when available.

6. Adjust the flow control on the tractor until thesprayer system deadhead pressure is within thepump’s operating parameters:

If the flow limiter stops the flow of oil to the motor

a. Move the hydraulic lever to the neutral position. This removes the oil pressure from the flowlimiter and allows it to reset.

b. Adjust the flow control to a lower flow position.c. Repeat steps 5 and 6.

7. Set sprayer pressure by opening the agitation valve.
