Transcript of Pre assessment I can name three classifications of sedimentary rock.

pre assessment

I can name three classifications of sedimentary rock.

pre assessment

I know the characteristics that define each sedimentary rock type.

pre assessment

I know the difference between a clastic sedimentary rock and a chemical sedimentary rock.

pre assessment

I know the 7 classifications of rock particle size.

pre assessment

I know the 7 classifications of particle size.

pre assessment

I know the stages of coal formation.

pre assessment

I know the three types of coal and can describe each.

pre assessment

I know how a clastic rock is formed.

pre assessment

I know how chemical rock is formed.

pre assessment

I know how the two different types of organic rock are formed.

Organic rockCoal formation

Lignite

Bituminous

Anthracite

Plants grow in swamps or bogs. Each season they die. This happens over and over forming layers of dead material. No oxygen is available to continue rotting

The top layer that gets very little oxygen is a soft brown coal called lignite. It’s very moist and does not burn well but smolders.

The layer below that has much of its moisture removed due to the pressure of the weight of material above. It is a black soft coal that burns hot and quickly.

The last layer has nearly no moisture and has begun to crystallize . Burns hot and long.
