SECULAR EDUCATION IN U.S.A.

courte. The result seems to be an unhappy, divided household with

the chief sufferers, as usual, being the children. Ranged with

American Catholic opinion, the Pope speaks : " We raise our voice

in strong albeit paternal complaint that in so many schools in your land Christ is often despised and ignored; the explanation of the

universe and mankind is forced within narrow limits; materialism

or racialism and new educational systems are sought after, which

cannot but produce a sorrowful harvest in the intellectual and moral

life of the nation."

PRAYER

(From the Irish)

O Christ of the seed

O harvest-Christ:

That we may be stored

In the barns of the Lord.

O Christ of the fish O river-Christ:

In the nets of the Lord

May we find our reward.

From birth to growth And from growth to death

Thy two hands, O Christ, From over, beckon.

From birth to the end, Isn't 'end' but re-birth,

Would we were

In the Halls of Grace.
