January 15th is Adult Day
in
our adopted land. It is the time of celebrating for all
become 20 during the year. They are then permitted to vote and
are
supposedly permitted to
make their
own
decisions. MIYUKI YAMAGUCHI is a fine Christian nurse.
She
came
to
the chu
bringing three of her friends whom she wanted
to
introduce to Christians.
Speaking
of maturing, everyone is challenged at
seeing spiritual
growth. God
has
used various persons and means
to
lead
MARIKO

help her grow. She

searching, or
who
are
seeking
fpr something, they know not what. Can you
a brain surgeon being told by
an
elderly'lady that
his
teen-age daughter must be give
treatment right away
or
she would die? It is a psychological problem brought on b y
and community pressures and neither
father
nor
mother
would admit a
problem.
Yet,
their
was withdrawing herself and withering away. We are trying to show them that love i
answer;
that
love
must
be
applied along
with
discipline
in the
home. What
a
very
powerfu
is
love.
Speaking
of love, Ruth Yamazaki
was
a minister's daughter who attended
Obirin
College a
ago. She
had gone into welfare studies and was observing physio-therapy treatments
n the Philipines. While she was swimming one day she rushed to the aid of two persons who
in danger of drowning, and saved them both. In the process she lost her own life. As
the
Philipinos
now
know the truth
of Jesus' words greater
love hath no man
a
man
lay down
his life for
his
friend .
We
are hoping that
the
Philipine
sitting
next to Kathleen
on
the plane heard the story, too. For she spoke
of
her inabil
rid of a
terrible hatred
for the Japanese. Again, love triumphs over hate.
Just about ten of our missionaries
in
Japan minister regularly
to congregations.
The
Sa
has a budget of
some
$10,000. One fifth of that
amount
goes
unary'iTi~Thailand, Osaka
Bib le Seminary
and to the New Church effort
being
put
in
the
Tokorozawa area. They have
also taken over responsibility for part
of
my
salary
s
well.
Pray
for their
vision
and
outreach to
expand.
All
of
you remember
Sarah
Burney who
ser
ved both at Machida and
at
Isehara
when each
our
families took furloughs.
Sarah
and
her
husband,
Geof
Acker are beginning right
now
t
make
plans
to come
to
work in
Japan.
In
fact
we are hoping
that
they
can
arrive by
Christm
so that we can take at least a three-month
furlough. They will supply for us. They hav
been
living
and
working
in
Ontario. We com
mend
them to
you and to
all
the churches
as
worthy of
your
support.
We all have been pra
ing the Lord of the harvest that he
will
sen
forth laborers into his harvest . He
is
now
moving them to
ome
and
answer
that prayer.
They now have
one
son, John, who
is just
one
year
old.
Write and give them
your encourage
ment.
