What is PR?• It is press release a.k.a praise

release and that is nothing to be ashamed of……because as a PR person, your job is to recognize achievements, help on the advocacies of your agency and INSPIRE. Your job is to praise.

PR may be in various forms

1. Raw information (reports, brochures, research results, abstracts, statements, etc.)

-This is usually given by request to writers/reporters when they are writing something about your institution/group, see, you don’t have to write everything!

2. Popularized (news/feature articles)

-Some newspapers would prefer this form because it will take less time for them to process the info to fit their paper. For newspapers, every minute is a deadline and you have to understand that. If you need to have your PR published as soon as possible, then this form is recommended.

3. Non-print (videos, audio recordings)

-A common misconception is that PRs are only in written form. TV and radio stations do accept press releases too, but of course in the suitable form. A simple audio recording from your agency head regarding a certain topic or just simply inviting the public for an event can do. Or if you have the resources to produce video materials, you can send them too.

How to get your PRs published

1. Organize press conferences…through your region’s Philippine Information Agency office. PIA is a government line agency that aims to help other gov’t agencies to have media leverage. Maximize their presence.

How to get your PRs published2. Establish rapport with media personnel

Like every societal group, the media are sometimes stereotyped . So take every opportunity to be up close and personal with them, you will never know what perks that would bring. But then it’s a friends-with-benefits relationship but it shouldn’t mean the friendship is not genuine. Treat them as your colleagues.

3. Subscribe to advertisements

Advertisements are the lifeblood of every newspaper, and it’s the only ethical way to solicit their support, show gratitude to their support and to support them in return. Ads are also additional PR for your agency/group.

4. Invite them!

If you can’t write or produce videos or audio clips, you can invite the media to come to your place/office/site. They will be more than happy to do the “write” and “edit” things for you.

SMILE, SMILE, SMILE

No group of people monopolize rudeness, if one

media personnel has been rude to you, it does not mean that all of them are.
