Short Answer (~1-3 Sentences)

Provide  an  example  of  a  direct  effect  of  nature  on  nurture  and  an  example  of  an  indirect  effect  of  nature  on  nurture.

Provide  an  example  of  how  understanding  child  development  can  inform  policy  decisions.

Short Essay (~ one page; complete sentences)  The  film  ‘The  Ghost  in  the  Genes’  discussed  epigene%cs.  Define  epigene%cs  in  your  own  words  and  discuss  two  pieces  of  support  for  the  phenomenon  of  epigene%cs  described  in  the  film.  Be  sure  to  indicate  which  piece  of  support  provides  the  strongest  evidence  and  say  why.

We  discussed  4  Broad  Theories  or  Approaches  to  Cogni%ve  Development.  Each  theory  (or  approach)  was  linked  to  a  metaphor  (e.g.,  Piage%an  theory  was  linked  to  the  ‘Child  as  Scien%st’  metaphor).  Discuss  a  defining  aspect  of  each  of  these  four  broad  theories  by  discussing  the  meaning  behind  each  of  these  metaphors.  Be  sure  to  men%on  how  each  approach  fits  with  the  ‘Nature  vs.  Nurture’  theme  (i.e.,  do  they  tend  to  emphasize  Nature  or  Nurture  more  and  how  so?)  and  the  ‘Mechanism  of  Change’  theme  (e.g.  describe  at  least  one  key  term  each  theory  uses  to  account  for  cogni%ve  change).
