  • 2. Program Description The Practical Nursing program is a 4 semester (excluding core), full-time, day program offered on Moultrie Industrial Drive Campus and the Tifton Campus. The Practical Nursing Program prepares the students for the NCLEX-PN for licensure as Practical Nurse. Reference for more details on licensure in the state

Employment Opportunities: There are endless job opportunities available as a Licensed Practical Nurse, to include: Physician Offices, Nursing Homes, Hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Travel Nursing Job Placement: Practical Nursing graduates are employed in field. To see current placement rates, please see the Disclosure slide and click on the link. Salary: The following are estimates based on employment trends in this area. $12.00-$15.00 per hour depending on place of employment and shift.
  • 4. Competitive Admission Requirements Based on the following. 1. Core class grades (completed before Competitive Process) 2. Mandatory orientation (offered twice a year) 3. PSB Exam (explained at mandatory orientation)
  • 5. Additional Program Requirements Clinical: Located at various hospitals, local long term care facilites, Various physicians offices, Health Department, Green Oaks, Southwestern State Hospital. Our clinical days are typically Wednesday and Thursdays. Clinical hours are from 6:30 am to 4:00 pm. Clinical hours will vary depending on the site.

Additional Program Requirements Uniforms: Approximate cost $120.00-$200.00 Pre-Clinical Requirements: Random Drug and Alcohol Screen on instructors command, physical exam, TB skin test, Up-to-date immunizations and criminal background check. Note: these tests are only valid for one year. Approximate cost is $500 (including immunizations that are necessary) Licensing Exam Fees: $250.00 due during 4th semester for NCLEX exam review course. $290.00 for NCLEX-PN exam, background check for Board and license due 4th semester.
  • 7. Timeline How often we register? You can register for core courses any semester. The program courses begin every Fall and Spring on Moultrie Campus and the Tifton Campus. What is the procedure to register each semester? Contact your program advisor through e-mail or in person during new student registration day or pre-registration week. How often is the competitive admission process? Competitive Admissions for the Practical Nursing program courses occur in the Fall and Spring each year for the Moultrie and Tifton Campuses (effective July 2010).
  • 8. Timeline When should core courses be completed? Prior to entering occupational courses. Must go through competitive process to get to the Occupational courses How long does it take to complete my core? Minimum of 2 semesters.(**reference program page to view course descriptions for core courses.) What do my grades have to be in order to be successful in the Practical Nursing courses? The PNSG occupational courses are the basis of your nursing knowledge and in order to be successful on the NCLEX PN, you must get the most out of these courses. In order to progress through the program, a student must achieve a 75% overall average in each PNSG course. How long does it take to complete the program (minus core)? 4 semesters

You will also be required to pay for books, equipment, and supply fees that exceed your financial support from HOPE and Pell grant. Book/supplies prices will vary depending on courses registered and on up to date publisher pricing.

  • 13. Frequently Asked Questions When do I need to attend the Mandatory Orientation? Students should attend the Mandatory Orientation in either summer or fall semesters. They should complete their core courses in summer or fall semester or have completed their core courses when they attend. Why is there a competitive process for nursing? Our program must follow the LPN Board Rules for educational programs. According to rule 400-3-08, there can be no more than 10 students per instructor in the clinical setting. This number allows for better instructional time for each student and the best possible clinical experiences.
  • 14. Frequently Asked Questions What is the PSB exam? This is an entrance exam that tests knowledge in several areas including science, reading comprehension and math. Student Services has more information regarding this exam. How do I study for the PSB exam? Student Services has information regarding the PSB exam. They also have an information sheet with practice questions that will be handed out in the Mandatory Orientation. To ensure you are rested and ready for the exam, get a good nights sleep the night before. Eat breakfast or lunch before taking the exam (depending on your appointment time).
