Enriching experience for Olympias Hotel programme students at Penang National Park

Recently, the Hotel programme students and lecturers from the School of Hotel and Tourism

Management of Olympia College, Penang visited the Penang National Park at Teluk Bahang, Penang

to learn about tourism industry.

According to Puan Nooraini Youp, Deputy Principal of Olympia College, Penang, The objective of

the visit is to expose our student to eco-tourism activities as well as to educate them to appreciate and

conserve the natural heritage as well as to gain knowledge from the pristine surroundings of Penang

National Park.

At the Penang National Park, our students did activities such as trekking, swimming, wildlife

observation and enjoyed the natural environment. she added.

In the Hotel Management programme, our students not only need to learn, focus and understand the

subject that is related in managing the hotel, but they also need to know and learn few subjects which is

related to tourism industry. she stressed.

Once the group had reached the Penang National Park, a briefing was conducted by Ms Ana (the Nature

Guide). Thereafter, the group started the jungle trekking from the entrance to Pantai Kerachut. Along

the way, the Nature Guide explained to them about the flora and fauna species. There are altogether an

estimated 417 flora and 143 fauna species, according to a local daily report in May 2006.

Once the group had reached Pantai Kerachut, they viewed the breathtaking scenery of Meromictic Lake(layers of salt and fresh water) and then, they visited the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre (a nursery centre

for baby turtles).

The group then went for lunch by boat to the Monkey Beach where they had a BBQ lunch and

participated in some beach activities and returned home.

Overall, the activity has strengthened the relationship among students and lecturers and also, they have

gained knowledge and experience towards preserving our nature and environment. added Puan

Nooraini.

Olympias Diploma in Hotel Management programme is a highly sought programme for those

interested in a successful hotel career. The hotel programme was developed with the assistance of

partner institutions and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to meet the demands of the hotel

industry.

Olympia College is a member of the prestigious Malaysian Association of Hotel (MAH). The graduates

from the Diploma in Hotel Management will :

1) receive an additional Diploma from the Business and Hotel Management School (BHMS)(Switzerland)*
