1. SUBSTATION
A Station is a subsidiary station of an electricity generation, transmission,&
distribution system where voltage is transformed to high to low or the reverse
using transformers.
A substation generally have switching, protection, & control equipment & one or more transformers.

2. LIGHTNING ARRESTER
Lightning arrester is a protective
device which provides protection
against high voltage from lightning.
A Lightning arrester has two
terminal viz a high voltage terminal
and a ground terminal.
It is used only for overhead line.
3. BUS BAR• A Bus bar is a conducting bar that carries heavy currents to supply several electric circuits.
• Bus bar is made from ‘Cu’ and ‘Al’.

1. Main Bus Bar2. Auxiliary Bus Bar
• One Bus Bar is Main Bus Bar and another is Auxiliary Bus Bar.
4. TRANSFORMER
A Transformer is a static device that transfers Electrical energy from
one Electrical circuit to another Electrical circuit by means of a
common Magnetic Circuit.

oCURRENT TRANSFORMER
Current Transformer is an instrument transformer used to protection & Metering of high values of current.
Current Transformer:- A C.T is used to step down current for measurement, control and protection.
oPOTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
Potential Transformer:- Potential Transformer are Instrument Transformer. A P.T is used to step down voltage for measurement, control and protection.
C.V.T. :- CVTs are special king of PTs using capacitors to step down the voltage. A capacitor voltage transformer (CVT), or capacitance coupled voltage transformer (CCVT) is a transformer used in power systems to step down extra high voltage signals and provide a low voltage signal, for measurement or to operate a protective relay

6. ISOLATOR

7. CIRCUIT BREAKER
A Circuit Breaker is an automatically or manually operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit.

8. PROTECTIVE RELAYS
• Protective Relay is a sensing device and it is designed to detect operating conditions on an electric circuit.
• It trips the circuit breaker, when fault is detected.
9. INSULATORSIn order to avoid current leakage to the Earth, through the supporting structure provide to the conductor of overhead transmission lines, insulators are used.
10. POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION
•For exchange of data and transfer message between grind substation , Voice communication is necessary. For this purpose high frequency Carrier current is transmitted on same transmission line on which power is transmitted.
Hence such communication is called-“POWER LINE CARRIER COMMUNICATION”.

Capacitor banks are used to improve the quality of the electrical supply and the efficient operation of the power system. Studies show that a flat voltage profile on the system can significantly reduce line losses.
11. CAPACITOR BANK
To remote control of power switch gear requires the provision of suitable control plates located at a suitable point remote from immediate vicinity of CB’s and other equipment.

In a GSS, Separate dc supply is maintained for signaling remote position control, alarm circuit etc. There is a battery room which has 55 batteries of 2 volt.
