Ask Good Questions
One of the most importanttools for engaging
another person in a conversation is your
curiosity.Your curiosity best manifests itself inthe way you ask questions.
First of all, you want to ask big, open-ended
questions that require more than a yes orno answer and create for the other person
the context to really talk about themselves.

In everyday life, one of the most common
conversation starters is to talk about the
situation you are in. If you are in arestaurant, talk about what you see around
you. Give your opinion about something you
see. If the person you are with shows someinterest, you can continue to talk about
every aspect of that restaurant.

If you struggle with starting conversations with
some people or in some contexts, its OK to use
conversation starters you have learned andpracticed before.
Remember that good conversation starters reflect
your authentic curiosity.
How to start a conversation in one concise
phrase, it would be this: have a combination offriendliness, curiosity, authenticity and verve.
This mix is an almost magical key which opens
many doors in social interactions.

However, if the person does not seem so
interested, you could compare that restaurant to abetter one that you have been to. Besides the
location you are in, you could also talk about the
weather, about people who are passing by, or about
what you and the other person are wearing, etc.
Very important if you can show that you are
confident about what you are talking about and the
other person can give the positive respon. Theconversation will keep going if you always confident
and talking about the things that can make them
interest.

You do not have to be sospecific to start a conversation. Youcould make a more generalcomment. For example, you could
comment about what ishappening in the world, or at yourjob, or in your city. This is a goodway to find out what the otherperson is interested in. Watch how
they respond to your comment anduse that as a sign showing whetheryou should continue talking or not.
Don't worry if the other
person does not show enthusiasm. That often happens. However, ifyou keep on trying, you will findsomething that is of more interestto him or her.

A great way to start the
conversation is by complimenting
someone to. When we dont
know how to start a conversation
then to break the ice, a
compliment is always nice.A simple way that often helps
strike up a conversation is to
compliment the person, and then
ask a question, for example :"I love your bag, where did you
get it?"

3. Ask the other person question
about themselves
Theres no better way to start a conversation
than ask someone a question about themselves.
We often find that lots of people hesitate to talkabout themselves, especially at the beginning of
a conversation. They may believe its impolite or
they may not be comfortable with opening up, so
they choose to bombard the other person with
questions as an alternative.

Nobody wants to feel like theyre in aninterrogatory when theyre having a
conversation: What do you do? Where do youlive? Where do you work? Where are you from? What hobbies do you have? That is too manyquestions for two minutes of conversation.
But we can ask the other person about the thingsthat they like, for examples Ask them what genreof music that they like. Some examples are HipHop, R&B, Pop, Reggae, Country, Jazz, Classical,
Rock, and Alternative. Once they tell you, try tothink of a song from that genre that you know, and could use to get the conversation started.

Sometimes simple things like these are really goodconversation starters especially if the person
happens to like the same kind of music that youdo. You can discuss different bands, or singers.Discuss maybe what concerts you have been to, orwould like to go see. Ask them what kind ofconcert they would go to if they had the chance to.
Then you can also ask them what their favorite
food is. For example you might want to ask them ifthey like Mexican food. Once they reply to you, yourespond with your kind of favorite food, and thenyou proceed to ask them which restaurant they likethe most.

2. Ask an open-ended question
then you can continue it with thesimple question like "Where doyou come from?" or commentabout the weather if you are onthe outside room, like "It's really
cold today isn'tit?
The weather is the simple topic
which can be easy topic for
talking to someone. An openquestion requires an explanationfor an answer rather than just asimple yes or no.
