Initiation about Communication:• According to famous communication scholar McQuail

“Communication is a process which increases commonality and also requires elements of communality for it to occur” The world of individuals are witnessing and forwarding towards a new millennium of development and transformation.

• The human society is experiencing the unstoppable spirit of change in their way of everyday life, because “Change is the only constant in the universe” by Greek Philosopher Heraclitus. From the ancient ages of the human civilisation and from the initial days of living we all are known to this very fact that there are three most essential things of human survival and that are food, clothing and shelter.

Concept of Communication: Communication is a product which is being produce through the time and civilisation. It

took in our society because of the humanitarian need for livelihood in the day to day life. Because it is a well-known phenomenon that no can cam live without communication. It is a by birth desire to each and every individual to communicate. (Bhattacharjee, 2007)

Another aspect of communication is that we communicate with ourselves or others and our focus is sometimes undefined and vague and sometimes very particular as well. Sometimes we are not even in conscious mode to communicate and as a result our target audience fail to get the original messages which are being required by them. But anyway we communicate and we communicate to grow and survive in this universe.

Initiation about Culture:• Culture is an amalgamation of cumulative and diversified

deposit of knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings, perceptions, ideas, ideologies, relations, roles, functions, concepts and constructs etc. acquired and obtained by a group of people or a community.

• In simple terms one can define culture by underlining that it is a system or structure of sharing and dissemination of popular notions, perceptions and beliefs by large section of the society.

Culture & Society:

• Culture and society are not always same; if society is the broad thing then culture would be a part of that. When we talk about culture, it is about a complex combination and amalgamation of shared values, ethics, and perceptions and experiences etc. whereas society is a union body of various things like communication, culture, tradition, belief, taste etc.

• Society is also the centre of all the diversified and heterogeneous elements and factors which are subject to take part in the routine regimen of society itself.

communication and culture and how both the entities are interconnected and interrelated.

• This paper is also trying to unpack and clarify the ambiguity which is there in the fundamental lines between culture and communication.

• How culture and communication are related?• What are the connecting points between culture and

communication?• How sustainable development can be achievable through

the interdependence and dynamics between culture and communication?

Rational for the study:• Rational is also quite an important aspects for research because it

is evident that the researcher should ask the himself/herself why the questions have arisen and does it have any practical or theoretical basis?

• For this particular study the research questions have arisen because it is having a clear-cut motto and theoretical basis that in every context and facets of human life, both communication and culture are playing an indispensible role. Communication and culture are present in almost all activities of the society, the existence of communication and culture are justifying and giving proper meaning to the things which are taking place in the society and human life.

ANIRUDDHA JENA, M.Phil. Scholar, Dept. OF J&MC02/05/2023 11

Methodology of the study:• As it is a theoretical paper by studying various research paper and

previous research articles, so the researcher has gone through various books and articles in order to understand the basic fundamentals of communication and culture in order to understand the very idea about what culture is actually and how it is related to communication?

• Number of research has undertaken is the field and number of discourses and debates are going on this important topic about communication, culture and development, because in 21st century the age is of media and communication, where media is having the power to change and to control and shape the public opinion about particular thing which are happening in the society.

Communication & Culture: A Way Forward to Sustainable Development

• As lot has been discussed about the concepts, ideas and attributes related to communication and culture, hence it is not time to know about sustainable development and what communication and culture have to do with it. Communication is always a key element is the whole of attaining sustainable development.

• As communication is attached and associated to culture so strongly that means if aspiring communication and culture needs are meeting of the target groups then sustainable development would not be far dream to attain. Sustainable development is nothing bit attaining the mark of development is a sustainable way by not hampering the future prospects of the forthcoming generations of human society.

Limitation of the study

• As the research is a process of unknown to known and again from known to unknown, cause while going from unknown to known, that means the research has able to find a particular solution to the issues on which the research was carried out. But when the research flows from known to unknown, which means that one more problem has been formulated and that needs another research to be conducted in order to find out a particular solution to the existing problem.

• In this particular research the researcher couldn’t do an empirical study as the time constraint was there. The other limitation of this study is that there are much debate over both concepts communication and culture and its importance in reference to development, so the concepts and the theories which are allied to the study also limited and streamlined too.

Conclusion

• Communication and culture is as important as like other essentials (Food, Clothing and shelter etc.) for human survival, in fact both communication and culture is associated to humans in each and every transaction which takes in the lifespan of an individual.

• One can’t avoid communication and culture from his/her life by any means, every passing moment we all are strongly associated to communication and culture.

• Sustainable development is the need of the hour and the whole world is running after that. Both communication and culture are key players in attaining the right spirit of development.
