ABOUT COMPANY

Coromandel International Limited is in the business segments of Fertilizers,Specialty Nutrients, Crop Protection and Retail.

Coromandel manufactures a wide range of fertilizers and markets around 2.9 million tons making it a leader in its addressable markets and the second largest phosphatic fertiliser player in India.

In its endeavor to be a complete plant nutrition solutions company, Coromandel has also introduced a range of specialty Nutrient products including Organic Fertilisers.

The Crop Protection business produces insecticides, fungicides and herbicides and markets these products in India and across the globe. Coromandel is the second largest manufacturer of Malathion and only the second manufacturer of Phenthoate.

Coromandel has also ventured into the retail business setting up more than 425 rural retail centers in the agri and lifestyle segments.

The Company clocked a turnover of Rs.6527 crore in 2009-10 (USD 1.44 billion as on March 31, 2010).

Coromandel was ranked among the top 20 best companies to work for by Business Today and was also voted as one of the ten greenest companies in India by The Energy & Research Institute (TERI), reflecting its commitment to the environment and society.

Coromandel is a part of the Rs.13,617 crores (USD 3.03 billion as on March 31, 2010) Murugappa Group.

HISTORY

1961 : An industrial license was granted to IMC, Chevron Chemical Company and E.I.D. Parry (India) Limited to set up a giant chemical fertilizer complex.

1962 : E.I.D. Parry was appointed Coromandel’s principal sales agent in India for product aptly name “GROMOR” epitomizing the idea of growing more food for the nation

1967 : Mr. Morarji Desai, the then Deputy Prime Minister of India, dedicated the fertiliser plant which was situated at Visakhapatnam. The Visakhapatnam plant was the first in India.

1970 : The “GROMOR Farmer” was developed as a marketing symbol on their bags with message of “higher yields, bigger profits”. Today in markets Coromandel’s brand is identify by this symbol.

1975 : First in India to install a sulphuric acid plant based on ‘Double Conversion Double Absorption’ technology to control Sulphar Dioxide emission at the Visakhapatnam plant.

1995-99: Chevron Chemical Company divested its stake in favor of E.I.D Parry (I) Ltd. In 1995, followed by IMC in 1999. E.I.D Parry (I) Ltd. acquired majority shareholding in Coromandel, making it a part of the Murugappa Group, a highly reputed industrial conglomerate.

2003 : On July 12, Coromandel consolidated its business by acquiring controlling stake in Godavari Fertilisers & Chemicals Ltd. (GFCL). To optimise synergy of operations in the Group, the Farm Inputs Division of E.I.D Parry (I) Limited was merged with Coromandel on December 1.

2006 : Plant Protection Business expands Coromandel acquired FICOM organics Ltd.

2009 : New Brand Identity and Logo. 25th of September the name of the Company was changed to Coromandel International Limited and the new logo unveiled.

It was set up by the E.I.D Parry India Ltd. in the early 1960 with the collaboration of IMC and Chevron Companies of USA.

The first Board of Directors was constituted on 16th October, 1961. H.V.R.Lengar as its Chairman.

L. L. Powell was the first Managing Director.

P.J. Davis was the first Dy. Managing Director.

Products & Services :

Coromandel has multi- locational production facilities and manufactures & markets a wide range of Phosphatic Fertilizers, Crop Protection Products, Specialty Nutrients like Sulphur Pastelles, Water Soluble Fertilizers, Micro Nutrients and Organic Fertilizers.

The Company exports its Crop Protection products to countries across the globe. Coromandel also provides agri input solutions to the farmers and offers life-style products through its rural retail centers.

4. Sources Of Raw Material :

HCCP barrels get import from US. BD barrels get import from China. TC used to gets in India only.

5.Waste Material :

Effluents remain after the whole process is in the aqueous phase,

containing Sodium Chloride, Sodium Sulphite and Sodium Carbonate. Andacc. to rules of MPCB i.e. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, companycan not leave any hazardous liquid or gas directly into environment. So thiseffluents containing aqueous phase should have to reprocess. For thereprocess it sends to ETP i.e. Effluents Treatment Plant in which this wastematerial again go through various process and after reprocessing the liquidform gets converted into solid form. This solid form waste gets dumped intoenvironment.

10. Customer Segmentation of Company :

Agriculture is the backbone of Indian Economy still holds its relative importance for more than a billion peoples. The Government of India from time to time has taken considerable steps for the upliftment of Agriculture Sector. Here we have analyzed the performance of Fertilizer Industry.

The company seeks to boost fertilizer sales through closer bonding with the farming community. The expansion of these stores comes close on the heels of encouraging response from the farming community in Andhra Pradesh, where Coromandel has a market share of about 60-70%.

Company specially targets the farmers; they reach to them by their retail outlets and various stages. This is the flow chart of their marketing of product.
