Investigate the different online stores and the products marketed

by them.Some of the Indian online shopping portals :• Amazon - books ,music, furniture, accessories, toys, clothing, electronics, food,

cloud computing, to mention a few.• Flipkart- all kinds of products.• Homeshop18- electronics, clothing , home appliances, and so on.• Myntra- clothes and accessories.• Indiaplaza-electronics , books ,music ,accessories ,chocolates .• Yebhi.com- accessories and clothes.

Investigate whether the people of your region prefer physical shopping to online shopping. Why?

The findings are as follows:• Out of 20 people 19 preferred online shopping.• Everyone trusted online products. • Most people are usual customers and use online shopping to buy

expensive items like jewellery, phones, and so on, because they feel the products are cheaper and of better quality online.• People have a wide range of products to choose from. Thus they

prefer shopping online.• Online stores offer all items and people don’t have to go to different

shops to purchase different articles .They can get all they want from one website which saves time and money.

Do shop owners feel threatened by increasing online shopping, why?

Interview 1 – The Manager of Haiko Supermarket

1. Do you face threat from online shopping?

Answer : No.

2. Will you face this threat in future?

Answer : No.

3. Why do you think so and why do you think that people will buy your products ?

Answer : People in India believe in the touch and feel factor. They do not completely trust the quality of food and utilities online. For Indians shopping is a way of socializing and therefore we find them often shopping in groups.

4.Online shops sell products at a price lower than yours. Why is it so?

Answer : Online shops make their profit by over rating certain products and under rating others. Pricing is thus adjusted to keep the net profit same. In local shops the prices are not varied .

5. What will be your marketing strategy to increase the sales?

Answer : Provide free home delivery facility, range of dairy products and sweets have been introduced, become suppliers themselves to online retail shops.

Interview 2 – The Manager of E Zone Electronic Shop

1. Do you face threat from online shopping?

Answer : No.

2. Will you face this threat in future?

Answer : No.

3. Why do you think so and why do you think that people will buy your products ?

Answer : People in India do not trust the quality of products provided online, especially electronics which require testing and is based primarily on the touch and feel.

4. Online shops sell products at a price lower than yours. Why is it so?

Answer : Online shops buy in whole sale market and these items include defective items and therefore they are able to sell at lower rates.

5. What will be your marketing strategy to increase the sales?

Answer : We will keep it the same.

Suggestions for local shop owners to be more competitive, customer

friendly and customer centric.• To have a better display of products.• To keep deals to attract customers.• To have more sales personnel to guide for a best deal.• To have free home delivery.• No queues for payment.• To have bargain rates.• Have greater variety in products offered.• Located in residential areas.• Have longer working hours.

• Yes ,shop owners do suffer due to the popularization of online shopping .• From these interviews we get to know that 3 people of 5 do online shopping and

also feel that online shopping is easier ,cheaper and less tiring as compared to physical shopping.• One of the remaining two people does online shopping but feels that it is more

refreshing to go out and shop.• Finally, the remaining last person does not do online shopping at all because he

feels that if you order the wrong size or there is some defect in the product then it is not worth returning as well, and so feels that it is better to buy it once and for all.
