1.1.1. Approved Tyres Certain Championships define the permitted tyres, and competitors are recommended to check the requirements in event and championship regulations. Only approved tyres may be used for Formula Ford and F3 cars. Details are contained in the Regulations issued by the organisation concerned. 1.1.2. Production Tyres The tyres in Lists IA are regarded by the tyre manufacturer as Standard Road Tyres. They may have wear bars moulded into the tread at 1.6mm remaining pattern depth. These are set at six positions around the circumference of the tyre and extend across the width of the tyre. If any of the wear bars are flush (level) with the tread surface at pre-event scrutineering the vehicle will be rejected and not allowed to compete. Tyres with sidewall markings removed will be prohibited in all events unless they are correctly marked ‘Retread’ or ‘Remould’. PRODUCTION SALOON CAR RACING/ PRODUCTION SPORTS CAR RACING For these formulae only standard road tyres in List IA are permitted and these to rim and tyre sizes as laid down for specific car models on Production Car Specification Sheets. All tyres to carry EEC 30 ‘E’ mark. With effect 1.7.97 it became illegal for anyone to supply new or part-worn tyres that are non ‘E’ or ‘e’ marked tyres for public highway use (ie marked in accordance with requirements of EEC Regulation 30, 30.1, 30.2 or EC Directive 92/23). This includes VR and ZR (previously exempt). All new and part-worn road legal tyres supplied as from 1.7.97 must be ‘E’ or ‘e’ marked. Some tyres in list 1 A & B may have additional sidewall markings denoting specific fitment at OE. These markings may be in the vicinity of the range name or following the size designation (example: NO,MO,*). Such tyres with additional markings are accepted as equivalent to tyres designated in List 1A & B. 1.1.3. Tyres marked with an asterisk in Lists IA and 1B may be removed from the lists w.e.f. 31.12.06. (Details in official bulletins.) 1.1.4. Additional tyres may be added to the lists after the deadline for printing. (Details in official bulletins.) 1.1.5. When run-flat tyres are used, tyre pressure monitoring devices should be used. Run-flat variants of tyres listed in 1A are permitted. 2. TYRE TREAD ON SPECIAL STAGES 2.1. For Rallies, all tyres used on the Public Highway must comply with the relevant Motor Vehicle Construction and Use Regulations, in addition to dimensions laid down in K 37.5.3 (Stage Rallies). It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure that only moulded tyres are used at all times. 2.2. Definition of moulded tyres. A moulded tyre is defined as one having a tread pattern with a width of 170mm (85mm each side of the tyre centre line) and a circumference of 140mm. In this area, the surface taken up by the grooves at least 5.5mm deep and 2mm wide must occupy at least 17% of the total. This tread pattern must be moulded. The sum of the width of the grooves encountered by a circumferential line in the area described above must be at least 4mm. The sum of the width of the grooves encountered by a radial line must be at least 16mm. The bridge blocks and sipes must be considered as part of the tread pattern if they are less than 2mm. Hand cutting is permitted but only for the purpose of introducing additional grooves no deeper than those moulded into a new tyre. Hand cutting in order to increase the depth of existing moulded grooves is prohibited. At all times during an event the tread depth must not be less than 1.6mm over at least three quarters of the tread pattern. 2.3. FIA homologated tyres are recommended for Stage Rallies. All tyres contained in Lists 1A and 1B are automatically authorised for all rallies. Please bear in mind that road legal List 1A tyres and some specialist motor sport tyres may not have strengthened sidewalls more normally used in the construction of tyres in List 1B and rally tyres homologated by the FIA. 2.4. Tyres marked ‘For Racing Purposes Only’ are prohibited on Rallies. 3.1.1.
