Housing & Cost of Living
I want to live in a home where I have a lot of outdoor space to garden or let kids play and I don’t mind driving a little distance for all my daily trips.

I want to live in a home where I have options for my elderly parents, other extended family or adult kids to live with me – either in my existing house or a detached building on my property.

Vision Outreach Design
Livable Frederick Vision
The Livable Frederick Vision created by the community will provide overarching guidance for the development of a comprehensive plan that will enhance livability, preserve distinctive places and plan for an economically resilient future for Frederick County over the next 25 years.
A plan to assure a county that is prosperous, healthy, resilient and equitable in the 21st century will require the planners and the Steering Committee to collaborate with community partners across the county to:
* Provide more transportation choices and active living alternatives. * Promote equitable, affordable housing. * Enhance the county’s economic competitiveness. * Support existing communities and plan for sustainable growth alternatives. * Build economic resiliency and long-term sustainability in the agricultural sector. * Provide guidance to advance green building, energy efficiency and the use of solar
and renewable energy, waste prevention, composting and recycling, and a sustainable local food system.
* Coordinate and leverage federal, state and regional policies and investment. * Promote policies and actions to mitigate, adapt and plan for environmental
sustainability. * Values and strengthen communities and neighborhoods. This systems oriented approach will strengthen Frederick county’s position as a national model
for livable and economically resilient communities.

Vision and Scenario Development
Next Step - Scenario Development
When the Vision results and Focus Group results are analyzed and the Trends and
Drivers are completed by all Work Groups later this summer, the next step in the
Livable Frederick process will be Scenario Development. The key to beginning the
scenario development work is gathering the Trends and Drivers information from
each working group.
Renaissance Planning is awaiting the preliminary data/template for these two data
sets to be completed so that they and County planning staff can begin synthesizing
this information
When these steps are completed, then we will begin examining scenarios that:
o Optimize Accessibility in Key Corridors, Activity Centers and Communities
o Begin to update community growth concepts for the Comprehensive Plan
American Planning Association, PAS Report 578: Sustaining Places:
Best Practices for Comprehensive Plans. 2015 https://www.planning.org/store/books/pdf/pas578execsumm.pdf
Sustaining Places: Best Practices for Comprehensive Plans offers a framework with standards for creating livable, healthy communities in harmony with nature — communities that have resilient economies, social equity, and strong regional ties. Four steps show how to turn those principles into a comprehensive plan and score the results. Insights from 10 pilot communities add the real-world
perspectives of big cities, small towns, and everything in between.
