• Clarify obligations for manufactures, importers and distributors
• Declaration of Conformity to LVD
• Manufacturers need to put the postal address on the product
• Importers name, registered trademark and postal address shall be marked on the product.
• Rebranding = becoming the manufacturer
• A risk assessment is required

The objectives of the Directive are:
- to protect consumer health and safety
- to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market
Scope: - Products not covered by other directives
- Safety aspects not covered by other scopes.
Demonstrate compliance
- European standards,
- National standards,
- Community technical specifications,
- codes of good practice,
- the state of the art and the expectations of consumers.

Producers shall be obliged to place only safe products on the market.Distributers shall “act with care”

- if RED electrical safety applies
- if IT or AV LVD standards applies

- Still need of a file demonstrating compliance to safety
