  • Proposal idea/contentConsidering the significance of human factors in maintaining effective border security, more specifically how these social factors impact on associated levels of security, the smooth flow of goods and travellers and the experience of those individuals crossing borders (land, sea or air).

These could be considered as part of a human - centric focus on border security:

    1. How border guards engage with the public and their interactions (especially travellers), the recruitment, selection and appropriate training of border staff,

    2. The effective leadership of border forces,

    3. The socio-technical interface between border guards and detection/security technology (joint-optimisation),

    4. The organisational culture of border security organisations

    5. The wider public perception of border agencies.

    6. Overview of the ethical issues arising from the use of detection and identification technologies by border guards

    7. Ethical risk assessment for use of detection and identification technologies

    8. Ethical guidelines for border guards on how these issues can be managed in accordance with EU laws and ethical commitments 6

not fit with the main model.

    Technical Objectives:

    • The translation of a disruptive socio-psychological model into algorithms for the detection of potentially violent acts before they happen.

    Commercial Outcome:

    • A software product, to be marketed to LEAs, which will aid them in the early detection of potentially violent acts and individuals.

    - EFFECTIVE FORMS OF POLICING- USEFUL MEASURES TO TACKLE THE PROBLEM OF THB, HELP THE VICTIM…

    - Activities tacling THB are too often incoherent, scattered, even divided.- Fundamental problem is NOT the lack of knowledge, on the contrary, or the number of individual initiatives.- The real NEED: to bring together relevant actors, and share and create effective forms of policing the problem of THB from the victims’ point-of-view- SOLUTION: Co-creation and service design activities run by Laurea’s experts.
