WHERE THEY COME FROM?

The Bajau people are among the original inhabitants of the

archipelago.

From the islands of Belau (PALAU) in the East to the

West Sumatra.

Another opinion, say that the bajau originated from

Johor.

Some also say Bajau originated from Riau Islands

in Indonesia.

BAJAU IN SABAH

is the second largest indigenous community in

Sabah.

mostly Muslim

Consisting of two ethnic groups, Bajau from West Coast and East Coase.

They use 6 different language and all of the come

from sama-bajau family.

• Bajau Samah

• Farmer, fisherman, skilled horseman

• Dubbed as „cowboy of the east‟ .

• Fisherman, skilled divers

• Dubbed as „sea gypsies‟.

• Kudat, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.
