TOEFL Lee Academy is a fully accredited TOEFL exam site, one of only eight in the entire State of Maine. The TOEFL test gives students more choices about where they can study, and is accepted by more institutions than any other English-language test in the world — including top colleges and universities worldwide.

Lee Academy welcomes students from other countries for study in academic and Intensive English programs. Lee Academy is committed to fostering international awareness and understanding and to encourage the sharing of ideas and cultures.

In September 2009, the Shenzhen American International School, a satellite

school of Lee Academy, opened in Shenzhen, China. It had a principal from

Orono, Maine and five teachers.[3]

Transfer Students

Calvary Murrieta Christian School (CMCS) will

accept incoming transfers for all grades with

the exception of 12thgrade. We will not be

accepting transferring 12th grade

students for the second semester.

Church Attendance

To assist in the development of Christian character and a Christian lifestyle, we require that at least one parent is born again and attending a Bible-teaching church on a regular basis (3-4 times per month). In addition, we require that students 7th grade and older are born again and also in regular church attendance. Regular church attendance by both parents and students goes hand-in-hand with church and school goals.

The teaching of the Bible is approached with emphasis on the inerrancy of the original Scriptures, the need for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ as personal Savior, and the ministry of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit that enables the Christian to live a godly life.

On June 10, Thornton Academy held a groundbreaking ceremony for its second dorm on campus. The 19,660 square-foot building will house 42 students and 4 faculty apartments. It opens in the fall of 2011. At the event, school officials also re-dedicated the James E. Nelson Residence Hall, celebrated the successful first year of Thornton's boarding program, and kicked off a new homestayprogram. Live where you learn in a brand-new student residence, with plenty to do nearby.

In 2009, 200-year-old Thornton Academy embarked on a new chapter by opening a state-of-the art dormitory. Built from the ground up, TA’s residential program offers a small, nurturing community with an 8:1 student to resident-faculty ratio.

Students who live at Thornton Academy share the joys and challenges of boarding school life with a wide variety of friends, and they are thus enriched by the diversity of talents and backgrounds. Most importantly, the quality of these friendships is deep, reflecting the shared experiences of boarding life.

Page 63: Powerpoint

Thorton Academy in 1889

By living on the grounds with faculty, students experience a unique family feeling. Teammates, housemates, and classmates become fast friends. Faculty members become trusted advisors and mentors, taking the time to know students well, to understand their experiences, celebrate their successes, and support them.

The overall student to dorm faculty ratio is 8:1, and in all cases, dorm parents are also student advisors. Resident faculty advisors meet each morning with their advisees and provide daily supervision and support. This relationship offers boarding students an informed and trusted adult who can help them make good choices, navigate difficulties, and grow in a healthy way. Residential advisors get to know each student who lives in the house, and these teacher-student friendships are among the most meaningful of all of your Thornton relationships

Mission:

Thornton Academy prepares students for a changing world

through a rigorous and broad-based program of academic,

arts and athletic opportunities. TA challenges students to

Student Housing

Camden Catholic offers two housing alternatives to international students. Families can choose to have their students reside either in our newly refurbished on-campus dormitory or in the home of a local host family. Our dormitory, Nazareth House, is a safe, comfortable and modern three-story brick building that offers single and double rooms; many are air-conditioned.Students living in Nazareth House take their meals together in the dining room on the ground floor. The company responsible for the catering makes a special effort to accommodate students’ dietary requirements and preferences.Ifthe sending family prefers, we also can place students with a host family chosen from a list of families that have been screened carefully and approved by an independent third party. These families live near the school and are eager to have an international student live with them.

Page 107: Powerpoint

International Students At Camden

Support Program

All international students participate in a special program designed to provide them the maximum amount of support during their time living in the Philadelphia area. This program was designed in recognition of the facts that our international students are far from their homes and families, are living in a new culture and will be learning in a new language. The key features of this program are:

* All international students are mentored by our International Student Coordinator, Ms. Lisa Borreggine, who has overall responsibility for ensuring that our international students’ time at Camden Catholic is as productive and enjoyable as possible. To that end, Ms. Borreggine works individually with each student to select each year’s courses, review academic progress, facilitate the students’ participation in extracurricular activities and review the students’ living arrangements. Ms. Borreggine is a highly experienced educator who teaches English at Camden Catholic. She also is certified to teach English as a Second Language (ESL).

*All new international students come to campus two weeks before the opening of school to participate in an orientation program to smooth their transition from home to an American high school. During this time they live in Nazareth House, our on-campus dormitory, and meet other students from our community, receive an assessment of their English language ability, and take classes on how to succeed in an American classroom. They also are given help to make arrangements for banking, medical care and music lessons (if needed) and are introduced to their host families (if they are not living on campus). To relax, students will participate in sports on campus, tour Philadelphia and take in a baseball game. Students should plan to arrive on campus August 21, 2011 to participate in this program.

Page 108: Powerpoint

Camden Catholic International Students

* Parents will receive written reports from the students’ teachers approximately every ten weeks regarding their progress in the classroom. They also will receive a written report from Mrs. Borreggine at the end of each semester summarizing the students’ experiences in and out of the classroom each semester.

Optional English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

Experience shows that international student success in high school is highly correlated with English language ability. Camden Catholic therefore offers two additional ways students can enhance their knowledge of English.

* English Summer CampWe offer a 4 week long intensive academic English program on campus from July 25, 2011 to

August 19, 2011. This program helps students with differing levels of English ability to be as ready as possible for the start of classes in September. Participation in this program is optional but highly recommended, especially for students new to the United States. The fee for this program is $5,700 and includes tuition, room and board and all course materials. This program is open to all students, whether or not they attend Camden Catholic. Please contact [email protected] to apply.

* ESL Classes During the Academic YearOptional ESL instruction is also available during throughout the school year. Classes meet for

one hour, three times per week when school is in session, after the regular school day finishes. The fee for this program is $4,500 and includes tuition and all materials.

Tuition and Fees

For the coming 2011-2012 academic year the total cost for an international student’s tuition, books, room and board in our dormitory or with a host family and all school fees is $23,950. If an agency is involved with the student’s decision to attend Camden Catholic, then that agency’s fees must be added to this amount. Parents should expect to incur additional costs of about $250 for school uniforms.

International Tuition and Fees $41,200: Inclusive of room, board, ESL and support services.

$150: Admission Application Fee

Transportation costs to and from your home and books are not included. Additional expenses and fees may be incurred during the course of the year. These might include instructional materials and school supplies, PSAT, SAT, ACT or other testing fees. Personal items and daily expenses are up to individual students.

International Student Support International study and travel may well be one of the most rewarding steps you will ever take. It can also feel like the riskiest. It takes courage to leave your family and native country to embark on a life in a new school with a new family in a culture that may appear strange and unusual. Saint Edward’s understands that this is a rare opportunity for you and for our community and we therefore take our responsibility for students support and care seriously.

SES will provide expectations and guidelines for students and host families, what to bring, when to travel, consult with academic scheduling, contact information and present suggestions for cross-cultural customs and habits that are unfamiliar.

We have a dedicated administrator to assist international students and families with the admission process, update both native and host families with progress reports, activity participation, and any individual issues that may arise.

• Our international summer camp focus on real life English communication. We structure our camps for students to become immersed in English for the duration of their stay. Students will receive 20 hours of English instruction per week (It’s 15 hours in most of the other camps). In class, we focus on the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Out of class, we take measures to integrate students from different countries when doing sports or activities. The students will have the chance to improve their conversational skillswhile getting to know students and cultures from other parts of the world. On top of these, the students will benefit from being in wonderful California, the home of natural wonders.

• There will be daily and nightly activities, plus full and half-day excursions. Daily and nightly activities include sporting events, movie and bowling nights. Full day excursions may include field trips to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Muir Woods, Santa Cruz, Golden Gate Park/Bridge, and Great America. Half-day excursions include local attractions, university tours, or company tours such as NASA, Google, Yahoo..

• The campus will be open for the summer school, so the international students will find the chance to interact with the domestic students as well.
