Reminders When You Submit A Suggestion

• Sign your suggestion. The first two suggesters on a suggestion must sign on the lines at the bottom of the white copy, additional sug-gesters sign beside their printed name on the back of the white copy. In order for the sug-gestion to be valid and submitted into the sys-tem each suggester’s signature is required.

• It is the suggester’s responsibility to turn in their own suggestion to the Suggestion Department. DO NOT leave your suggestion with a Group Leader to turn in. A suggestion must be in writ-ing and submitted on an official UAW‑GM Sug-gestion Plan form, (paper or electronically in the on‑line system), prior to implementation, or within the first 60 days after implementation. If a suggestion is not received by the Suggestion Department before the 60 days, it will not be eligible for an award.

Severe weather can occur any time of year. As a reminder, there are two methods for how your plant learns of weather events: many U.S. plants contract with Accuweather for alerts specific to the plant and nearby area, while some others are notified by local weather stations and general county alarms. Each site security chief can tell you what your site uses. Upon receipt of a tornado warning from AccuWeather or county‑wide alerts, plant security shall immediately activate the Take Shelter Signal. Employees will be notified by the plant‑wide Take Shelter Signal. In contrast, The National Weather Service, which typically pro-vides alerts via cell phone and texts, issues weath-er alerts for a wider regional area. Prior to severe weather occurring, please know your responsibili-ties when a Take Shelter Signal is issued and famil-iarize yourself with the take shelter location map near your workstation.

World Social Media Day

Sunday, June 30th is World Social Media Day, and many will be engaging on at least one social me-dia platform. According to globalwebindex’s 2018 survey, the average internet user now has accounts across 8.5 different social media and messaging platforms.

GM recently added a new tool to its social media toolbox with the addi-tion of @MFG_GM on Twitter. Here, you can find the latest manufactur-ing news, spotlights on employees,

new technology and trends. Several GM plants are providing local content to share on this Twitter account, so don’t be surprised, if someone asks you to participate and sign a photo consent form, allowing us to use your image. It’s a great way to share with family and friends what GM Manufac-turing is doing across the United States.

If you have questions or need assistance with a suggestion evaluation, contact me at [email protected] or (419) 784-7727. Normal office hours are 6 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. 2nd and 3rd shift hours available on re-quest.

We all know that Take Two is a fundamental Hazard Recogni-tion process that everyone must exercise in preparation for any activity we perform. One of the outcomes of tak-ing two is to identify our Safe Work Zone (SWZ). Hazards can come from any direction, and it is of utmost importance to es-tablish our Safe Work Zone (SWZ). The SWZ is an imaginary box or bubble that is all around us in which all hazards, danger-ous energies, and motions are controlled, so we can safely perform our task. The following areas are within each person’s Safe Work Zone: • Overhead: Potential haz-

ards and energies that can be over your head.

• Front: Potential hazards and energies that can be in front of you.

• Through: Potential hazards and energies that can be horizontal motion of your position.

• Inside: Potential hazards and energies that can be very close to you, inside the SWZ box.

• Behind: Potential hazards and energies that can be behind you.

• Under: Something under-neath your feet.

It is important to be in a con-stant state of alert, to make sure our SWZ is intact and no new hazards are entering from any direction. Also, we need to make sure that our SWZ moves with us everywhere we go. Our SWZ may also include people right next to us and equipment that we utilize, such as a vehi-cle or a push cart.
