Vessel performance data is automatically
collected on-board with SMARTVESSEL platform
interfacing with existing systems and sensors.
Panel displays and on-board computers can be
used to present key trending information and live
feedback continually to the crew.
Satellite communications are used to automatically
relay the vessel’s performance data ashore while
also updating the on-board system.
All of this information is stored securely on our
servers, where it is modelled with our high-
quality Metocean data.
Our web-based platform SMARTFLEET provides
easy and intuitive access to manage and analyse
vessel and fleet performance.

SMARTPOWER
System Outline
The BMT SMARTPOWER Torque
Meter completes the entire signal
processing on shaft and transmits
Serial (digital) data directly from the
shaft rotor to the shaft stator. By
processing the signals on shaft into a
digital format the system eliminates
errors from signal noise, signal drift
and data transmission. Therefore no
calibration is required after initial
installation.
Optional Functions
The system can be extended to provide
additional channels of information and
dynamic data from the shaft. The options
available are:
Shaft Thrust – with some shaft
arrangements it is possible to monitor the
thrust developed by the propulsion system
from the shaft stresses.
Shaft Dynamic Torque – superimposed
on the average shaft torque additional data
is available relating to the propeller
condition and cavitation, the status of other
gearing on the shaft and on major transient
events seen by the shaft.
Shaft Bending – Accessing the alignment
of the shaft both in static index positions
and while rotating in a range of test modes.
Ongoing monitoring of the amplitude of
these signals will be indicative of shaft and
bearing wear issues.
The Hardware Solution The BMT SMARTVESSEL data
acquisition solution is a modular
system, providing the flexibility needed
to meet each individual vessels
demands.
The components of the hardware are
all individually marine approved,
making it fully future proofed.
SMARTVESSEL Software
SMARTVESSEL is BMT SMART’s on-
board data acquisition solution which
automatically collects data and
visualises key indicators and trends
using an intuitive real time display.
Main Functions
Planning and Monitoring of Voyage
performance including monitoring of
various fuels for different consumers.
User definable graphic displays of all
navigation and performance data.
Traffic light system showing KPIs for
last minute / Voyage to Date / 1 hour
trend
Data Collection Process
This SMARTVESSEL system collects data
from analogue and serial feeds, converting
the sensor signals and transferring them
onto local storage.
The parameters and KPI’s are all
displayed graphically on a 15” touchscreen
monitor available as flush or panel mount.
The data is sent ashore in the user
required frequency. All data is checked on
a daily basis by BMT SMART, for any
anomalies or signs of sensor problems.

Continuous Measurement & Reporting
Over 70% of the world’s vessels rely
on noon reporting. This is the most
basic accepted form of collecting
data, but it has its limitations due to
the small quantity and inconsistency
of data reported.
The use of smart data for continuous
measurement and reporting to fully
and accurately monitor vessel
performance leads to better decision
making.
BMT SMART “Metocean”
Our advanced Metocean monitoring
solution isolates the parameters that
contribute to overall vessel
performance.
Subsequent filtering by these
Metocean parameters enables ship
owners and operators to assess the
true performance of the vessel,
particularly key when a vessel is on
time charter.
Powerful Algorithms Working in seamless combination
with our Metocean capabilities, our
advanced algorithms enable us to
isolate and trend the performance of
many different vessel components.
The different efficiency components
of the hull, propeller and engine can
be isolated and trended.
This not only helps stakeholders to
pinpoint the cause of inefficiencies
but also to quantify the effectiveness
of any adjustments that are made.
SMARTFLEET
The hardware Solution The modular nature of the solution
means that the BMT SMART
hardware provides a reliable platform
for each individual installation, from
the basic through to the most
complex, with the ability to scale the
hardware depending on the number
of sensor inputs.
All of our hardware has a ten year
parts availability and comes with a 12
month warranty as standard. BMT
SMART hardware is approved by all
major classification societies.
Installation Process Using our world wide team of highly
trained service agents, your
installation can be done in a local
port. The installation will take
between 2 to 4 days, depending on
the complexity of each individual
case.
The BMT SMART hardware can
also be removed and transferred to
any other vessel in your fleet by our
fully trained service agents, making
it an excellent long term
investment.
Maintenance and Servicing Our worldwide team of fully trained
service agents will be on hand to
provide maintenance to any vessel,
wherever they may be. This provides
fast detection and rectification of any
problems, ensuring the quality and
reliability of data provided by the
BMT SMART system.
