New Way of Thinking about
Homework Success #1 help them get organized
Be your childs advocate at home with learning howto grow up with expectations from work andorganizing their time to get those things done Strategies include:
Having a child only homework/assignment calendar centrallylocated in home to record those daily assignments and checkthem off when done
Teach child how to prioritize their assignments: Scienceproject of building a volcano may be fun, but it is due in 3weeks. The daily math homework however is due tomorrow
Come up with an easy color coding system to help themorganize: daily activities, personal goals, sports schedules

Homework Success #2- Ask and Answer Questions
Ask more of their understanding of the
assignment and its requirements Monitor if they have the right ideaExample- if they are saying that 2+2=5, it isa lot different than 2+2=22 knowing wherethey are informs how you can approach theproblems they are facing
Maybe do the assignment yourself so thatyou can see what they have to do and wherethey have to go to find the answers

Utilizing Your ResourcesUtilizing Your Resources
Use what you have at school Parent-Teacher communication is the #1 tool at your disposal
Key distinction is ongoing dialogue vs multiple conversations
Principal contact should come after ample effort with the teacher Not first step Ask for modification after you try working with the current
homework load If it is too much or is not accomplishing the goal, you can more than
likely change it most teachers are going to be parents andunderstand the difficulty you face, or they are at least human
Use those organization skills to look at lesson plans ahead oftime, here they are at the Springtown ISD website on theintermediate school page, and schedule your students timeahead of time.

There are many different angles you can come from tohelp your child. This is not a situation that there is aneasy fix.
Parents and Caregivers have the primary job of shapingchildrens development and preparing them for outsidethe school walls, not necessarily fixing them
Even if you are merely helping your child to organize acalendar for homework, you are giving them a valuable
and marketable skill for life after high school We can not do everything for them, but we can at least
love them by doing something
