Objectives
Technician Train the Trainer• Understand the ANSI standard ANSI/B56.1-2020
• Understand the program metrics
• Know when to escalate and handoff issues
• Understand how PMs will be dispatched
• GMM training via Zoom
• GMM will get work order to coordinate technician
training
• GMM to execute onsite training with technicians
• GMM will complete training work order (WO)

Dispatch
ServiceChannel WO✓ Work orders dispatched ¼ each month over 120 days
✓ 30 days to complete
✓ Incomplete WOs need to route to 3rd party via the manager
✓ Unsafe equipment must be placed in designated area of the store and LOTO until it meets ANSI
standards
✓ Work with the store manager/ store management to determine area for PM’s
✓ Manager – Order Tools for PM’s
✓ Parts air filter and oil filters
✓ Oil, hydraulic, grease and chain lube
✓ Wheels, tires, safety stickers and labels
PM&R | Proactive Maintenance and Repair4 Facilities Maintenance - Insource
Lockout/ Tagout (LOTO)
Disable a machine while its being serviced!✓ Repair circuits
✓ Cleaning and oiling machinery
✓ Clearing jammed mechanisms
✓ Rebuilding equipment
✓ Performing machine setup
✓ When to partner with store

Common Steps for PMs
1. Cert Roster2. Arrive on site/check in3. Inspect4. Clean5. Maintenance/Lubrication 6. Check functionality7. Document test results and any abnormalities8. Create work order in ServiceChannel for any repairs
• When carrying out PMs routinely check for wear, corrosion, damage, component operation and safety
• Always replace a component if in doubt on a separate Repair WO

Inspect
• VISUAL INSPECTION• During the PM, check that the warning and
instruction decals on the truck are complete and legible. ï Clean any dirty decals.
• Warning labels• Battery connection• Abnormal wear• Cracks in frame• Inspect for leaks
• Inspect drive unit • Inspect hydraulics • Inspect power cables & control wiring• Inspect control handle • Inspect mast assembly

Inspect
• Battery connection• For buildup/ corrosion
• Warning labels• Ensure they are readable/ clean• The condition of the battery has a
considerable impact on the performance of the truck
• Optimal maintenance is key to maintaining the performance and useful life of the battery.

Inspect
• Abnormal wear on forks • Check angle
o The fork angle deviation must be within a margin of 3 degrees. That means that the angle between the blade and the shank must be between 87 and 93 degrees.
o To use the caliper to check this, open it and place it between the plate and shank so that all four protrusions are touching. The angle can be read using the marking on the caliper.
o Any fork angle that falls outside of the degree range must be tagged out until the forks are replaced.

Inspect
Check fork hooks o The numbers on the end of the caliper indicate the forklift classes o Use the appropriate protrusion to check if the fork hooks are in
compliance
o Simply place the protrusion into the hook notch. If the hook hits the back of the caliper, it is out of compliance. If it does not, then the forks are fine for continued use. This fork is in compliance.
Check fork blade wearo Begin by setting the caliper by the thickness of the shank. Place the
caliper onto the blade at the point of the fork that receives the most wear, which is usually at its heel, as shown.
o If the blade passes the inside teeth of the caliper, then the fork is out compliance and must be tagged out until forks are replaced.

Inspect
• Cracks in frame• Inspect for leaks
• Inspect drive unit• Load wheels and castors• Inspect hydraulics • Inspect power cables & control wiring• Inspect battery and charger • Inspect control handle • Inspect mast assembly components and
frame

Clean
• Safety• Gloves• Safety glasses• Non-flammable cleaner• Apron – for battery acid/ oils /
liquids • Clean equipment• Clean internally/ externally• Open covers on unit• Clean & lubricate (lithium grease for
wear, where called out)• Remove & blow debris out of unit
• Work with store to designate an area
• Use cardboard to limit mess
PM&R | Proactive Maintenance and Repair13 Facilities Maintenance - Insource
Lubricate/Maintenance
• Service manuals will call out what to maintain• Air filters• Oil• Lubricate (zerk guns)
PM&R | Proactive Maintenance and Repair14 Facilities Maintenance - Insource
Check Functionality
• Service manuals call out what to check• I.E. Safety reverse switch test/ break test• Specifics will be called out in the service manuals• Operation MUST be safe
• Brake operation• Brake distance test* MUST be done!• If the test does not pass, the fault must be rectified
before using the truck again.• I.E. Brake air gap adjustment. This is the operating air
gap that is measured between the magnetic body and the armature disk when the brake is applied (brake de-energized)
• PLE Certification is required to operate equipment.

Finishing PM
• Repairs must be entered into ServiceChannel (SC)• Equipment can be returned to service
PM&R | Proactive Maintenance and Repair16 Facilities Maintenance - Insource
• PMs are not designed to address reactive repairs
• Create appropriate repair reactive work orders to address issues that do not fall within the PM checklists
• Checklists are provided to you in the Tech Hub
• Due to amount of dirt and debris, partner with store manager to designate an area to conduct PM
• Work with your supervisor to get certified on PLE
• When in doubt, always contact your manager when questioning the condition of unit or repair needs
