This course covers research design, information retrieval, problem formulation, use of statistical techniques, evaluation and writing of research reports, papers and ethics in research. At the end of the course, the student is expected to possess knowledge and achieve skills on the following: • The research scholar is expected to have attained proficiency in formulating

a research problem and use statistical tools in the analysis and interpretation of data pertaining to the research.

• The student is expected to follow ethics in his research and bring out a comprehensive research report.

This course will enable the student to acquire knowledge in any of the current topics relevant to Power Electronics & Drives or any other allied area in the absence of a text book. At the end of the course, the student will be able to • Do a self assessment on his/her presentation skills and improve upon the weaker areas. • Listen to a scientific presentation and to ask pertinent questions regarding the material presented. • Actively participate in a discussion of strengths and weaknesses of a research work presented by scholars. • Critically evaluate the technical work presented in journals/conferences and present such materials in a seminar. • Defend approaches and conclusions by providing appropriate answers to questions posed by the audience. At the end of the course, the student is expected to possess knowledge and achieve skills on the following: • Awareness of the impact of Power Electronic circuits on utility supply • The students are assessed on their performance in meeting the criteria of Open-ended, design-oriented labs. Three small projects have to be designed, built and tested. The students should justify their design. • Ability to build power electronic circuits

A) A) A) A) International CollaborationInternational CollaborationInternational CollaborationInternational Collaboration The Department of EEE has undertaken a Collaborative Collaborative Collaborative Collaborative Research WorkResearch WorkResearch WorkResearch Work with Purdue University (a top 10 US University) in the area of “Electro Chemotherapy for Effective Cancer Treatment”. This joint research work has yielded six Research publications / presentations and one research book.

� This research work is considered to be one of the thrust areas of our Government and steps are being taken to implement this technique for the cancer patients of our country. � Accordingly, a two day International workshop was organized in collaboration with Purdue University, USA, Cork Cancer Research Institute, Ireland, and Sri Ramachandra Medical University, India, during July 2011. � For effective implementation of this technique in India, Electroporator and Electrodes were indigenously designed and developed by B.S. Abdur Rahman University.
