Further Education & TrainingAwards Council (QQI)QQI validates and certifies Further EducationProgrammes. It sets and maintains standards in FurtherEducation Courses. All PLC courses in Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed are certified by QQI at Level 5 or 6. QQI awardsguarantee learners more options, greater flexibility, highstandards of quality, increased access and a ladder ofprogression into further Third Level Studies. Currentlythere are over 2,000 University & Institutes ofTechnology places reserved for holders of QQI Level 5 Awards.

Entry Requirements• Leaving Certificate with passes in at

least five subjects

• Leaving Certificate Applied with a minimum of 120 credits

• QQI Certification at Level 4

• Applicants over 21 years who may have notcompleted the Senior Cycle, but are deemedto have the necessary competence andcapacity to undertake the programme may also apply.

• Applicants with special needs are cateredfor, however, they must inform the collegeon application. We are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all students.

General InformationThere are no formal tuition fees for Irish and EUNationals who are full time students on our courses.Courses are funded by the European Social Fund.

An administration fee is required to cover studentservices. Students are also required to pay examination fees.

Work ExperienceCourses are designed to meet current employmentmarket needs by providing job orientated training andeducation. Coláiste Mhuire Co-Ed has built extensivelinks with many businesses in the locality and furtherafield through their work experience programme.

Students complete a block release period of workexperience during the year with many students findingemployment locally as a result of their work experience.

Higher Education Link SchemeProgression to Universities and other Colleges fromQQI programmes delivered at Coláiste Mhuire Co-Edis possible through the Higher Education LinksScheme (HELS).

This Scheme provides access from Level 5 and someLevel 6 Advanced Certificates to a number ofreserved places on higher education programmesthrough the CAO (Central Applications Office).Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) and LimerickInstitute of Technology (LIT) provide a number ofreserved places for all QQI Programmes in ColáisteMhuire Co-Ed.

Students are responsible for checking entry routesto the individual Higher Education Institutes and theCAO websites to ensure they meet any special oressential requirements specified such as:

• A specific Major Award. • A specific grade in specific components.• Additional Award requirements such as

mathematics. • That all credits used for scoring purposes

Learners who complete Advanced Certification Level6 with CMCO may apply for advanced entry straightinto the second year for some programmes. This is aPilot scheme and will be reviewed annually. Beadvised that course codes and titles may changeand students are responsible for checking eligibility.

Support is available to further education studentswhen they are registered with CMCO’s furthereducation college on all of this information.

Coláiste Mhuire Co Ed, partake in the highereducation links scheme with both Limerick Instituteof Technology (LIT) and Waterford Institute ofTechnology (WIT), students are responsible forchecking entry routes and progression pathways in this regard.

Guidance and CounsellingThe Guidance and Counselling team at ColaisteMhuire Co-Ed aims to provide a confidential andnon-judgemental service, where students have thespace to express and clarify their own particularconcerns in relation to career, educational andpersonal issues.

Interview PreparationAll students participate in career investigations andan interview-preparation programme, helping themto present themselves in the most professionalmanner at interviews.
