Film poster review: Beating Hearts The title of the short film ‘Beating Hearts’ implies that the heart could be beating very fast due to character being nervous and scared, this is usually found in thriller films and sometimes beating heart is used as non-diegetic music to emphasise the tension of the scene. The title is in red, this is effective because the colour red symbolises blood, war, death as well as love, passion and desire, it hints towards the narrative but due to the colour red creating two contrasting things it doesn’t give too much away, this will attract the audience as they will be intrigued to find out more. The colour red is a very strong and sharp colour that will instantly catch the audience’s attention and will therefore become attracted to the poster. The colour red and the title support the genre drama/thriller as it suggest that the narrative of the film could consist of tense scenes, ‘beating hearts’ could also imply that a character could be fitting for a beating heart and that there could be a death in the narrative. Dark and dull colours are used which is effective because it suggests that the narrative could consist of dark plot line. The background of the film poster is a mixture of shades of greys which connotes a storm theme, suggesting that the narrative could include an evil plot, implying that it could include a villain. The writer of the film, Matthew Garrett is written in bold black capital letters, this is effective as it instantly informs the audience who has written it. However, Matthew Garrett isn’t a well-known writer and therefore will not be recognised by the audience, but if the film went on to become very successful then he would become well-known and may be offered to write other films.
