Brief History
Department of Political Science is an integral part of Khallikote College, a more than a century
old premier institution of the state of Orissa. This prestigious institution started functioning from
the year 1878. UGC recognition was made in 17.06.1972 and Autonomy to the college was
granted in the year 1990. Political Science as a subject at undergraduate level started from 1944.
Postgraduate teaching in Political Science began in 1981. M.Phil teaching in political science
started in the year 2013.

EXTRA –CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES OF STUDENTS
1. PUNAM ROUT, +3 1st year (Hons) represented Junior National Basketball Championship at
Ludhiana and Chandigarh.
2. DIPTI RANI SAHU, + 3 1st year (Hons) represented Youth National Basketball
Championship at Chandigarh.
3. Ms Sucherita Patra, PG 1st year stood first in Debate competition on the occasion of
Constitution Day on 26th
Nov 2015.
4.Cdt. Ajit Kumar Sahu completed All India Army Attachment Camp from 7.11. 2015 to 21.11.
2015 at Army Air Defence Centre, Gopalpur and also attended NIC III from 10-19 January at
Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
FACILITIES PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS
> To issue books and study materials to the students from seminar library which is full of latest
books on political science.
> We have reading room facilities for the students in the department.
> Special coaching for those students who prepare for NET examination and other competitive
examinations.
> To assign Home assignments to the PG students and encourage them to write articles on the
topics relating to political science.
> We have prepared Question Bank for the students for reference.
>We take remedial classes for the students for better understanding of the subjects.
> We allot seminar topics to students to present before the class.
CURRICULAM DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
To face the present competitive world syllabi for post- Graduate and under graduate
students have been designed on Choice Based Credit System.
Inter-disciplinary paper has been introduced for PG students so that the students can take
their papers other than their own subject.
Quiz students on the particular competitions are being conducted periodically to enrich
the knowledge of the paper.
Debate and group discussion are being conducted to keep abreast of the current National
and International affairs.
PROMOTION OF RESEARCH
Students are being motivated to do research on current topics. For this research journals
are placed in the reading section of Central Library.
Internet facilities are provided to the students to collect data easily.
We visit periodically with the researcher to village Panchayat and Basti areas to collect
data about their functioning and standard of living.
We help the research scholar in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data.

1.6.2 UGC Sponsored and state level seminar
The department has conducted state level seminar on the topic entitled “Structure of
Intergovernmental Relations” and the Resource person was Prof (Dr) B C Choudhury, former
Head of PG department of Political Science of Berhampur University. Another seminar was
organized on the topic entitled “Role of India in Non-alignment Movement” and the paper was
presented by Dr D N Rath, Head of Department of Political Science of this college. An UGC
sponsored seminar on the topic “Indo-Pak Relation Beyond Kashmir” was held in the month of
November 2015 and the former Principal and Head of the Department of Political Science of this
college, Prof (Dr) Niranjan Barik had given consent to be the resource person. On the occasion
of Children’s Day a seminar was organized on the topic “Nehru: Ideals and Commitments” on
14th
Nov 2015 and former Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University, Prof (Dr) Jaya Krushna
Baral was the resource person. Both students and teachers attended the seminar in large number.
An Interdepartmental UGC sponsored seminar was organized on the topic entitled “Aristotelian
Foundation in Social Sciences”. Prof. Susmit Prasad Pani, Professor of History was the Resource
person on the occasion. Last but not the least, Prof Bramhanand Satapathy, Professor of Political
Science, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar was invited to deliver lecture on the topic “Comparative
study of Plato and Aristotle’s philosophy”.
