Hybrid Fuels

17

HDME50

18 | Asian ME Conference | 10/14/15

Hybrid fuels - typical characteristics

• Mostly resemble ISO RMB 30 or RMD 80 grades

• Mainly hydrocracker based with relatively high pour point

ISO Grade Density Range Viscosity @ 50°C Range

Al+Si Range Pour Point Range CCAI Range Energy Range

(kg/m3) (CST) (mg/kg) (°C) (MJ/kg)

RMB30 830.3 to 980.5 6.2 to 29.9 <2 to 54 -15 to 33 747 to 885 40.33 to 43.25

RMD80 890.8 to 935.6 30.1 to 79.9 <2 to 30 -12 to 33 784 to 829 41.91 to 42.45

19 | Asian ME Conference | 10/14/15

Hybrid Fuels

• Ignition & Combustion Quality – Good

• Viscosity - Need not to worry about internal leakage

• Al+Si content – can easily reduce to maker’s spec

• Energy Value - OK

• Cold Flow Properties - Need not to worry

• Lubricity property – no issue

• Cheaper than LSMGO

Issues with Hybrid fuels

Availability??

21 | Asian ME Conference | 10/14/15

Transfer difficulty during bunkering – PP issue

21

Bunker Port: Rotterdam

Grade – RMD80

Outside temp 9°C but the fuel PP is 30°C

22 | Asian ME Conference | 10/14/15

22

Excessive sludging (compatibility issue)

Bunker Port: Antwerp

Grade – RMD80Bunker Qty: 400 mt

Tank had unpumpable fuel from previous bunker, Serv. Tank 7 m3 and sett tank<1.0m3

Hybrid fuel feedback - Customer 1

• Using hybrid ULSFO fuel since December 2014

• Carried out full testing of all products including inter

compatibility. Continuous close communication with VPS and

fuel supplier throughout

• No major problems experienced

• Feedback from Chief Engineers have been that hybrid ULSFO

fuel runs “smoother” than MGO on the systems designed for HFO

• Substantial savings of >USD 50 per MT with current fuel prices

25 | Asian ME Conference | 10/14/15

Hybrid fuel feedback - Customer 2

• Using hybrid ULSFO fuel since Jan 2015

• Mainly from SK @ Busan and occasionally from Shell @ Rotterdam

• No problems experienced
