Takeda and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS

University) are pleased to offer Post-Doctoral Fellowships for pharmacists. The majority

of the fellow’s time will be spent at Takeda in Cambridge, MA. The fellow will be an

employee of MCPHS University in Boston, MA.

ABOUT MCPHS UNIVERSITY

As a private institution with a history of specialization in health sciences, MCPHS University offers programs that embody scholarship, professional service, and community outreach. Through MCPHS, the fellow will have the opportunity to gain teaching and research experience in an academic setting. MCPHS faculty and company program leaders mentor fellows according to their scholarly and professional interests throughout the program. MCPHS UNIVERSITY COMPONENT

As an adjunct faculty at MCPHS University, the fellow may have the opportunity to:

• Develop, coordinate, and teach courses

• Co-precept pharmacy students on advanced experiential rotations

• Create and publish scholarly research and/or review articles

• Present research at scientific and clinical meetings

• Participate in professional development seminars with other fellows and residents from MCPHS affiliated programs

BENEFITS

The fellow will receive a competitive stipend and benefits package, including comprehensive health and dental insurance. Attendance at one or more professional meetings, conferences, or workshops will be sponsored by the fellowship program.

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION

MCPHS University and Takeda will award a professional certificate upon successful completion of the fellowship program.

ELIGIBILITY

The MCPHS Biopharmaceutical Industry fellows will be selected on a nationally competitive basis. Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy at the commencement of the program.

• Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong interest in pursuing a career within the biopharmaceutical industry.

Eligibility Continued

• All candidates must have authorization to work in the United States throughout the duration of the one or two year fellowship. No visa sponsorship will be provided (i.e., TN, H-1B, etc.).

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The MCPHS application portal (SMApply) will open on Monday, October 11th, 2021. Applicants must upload the following application materials to the online portal (https://mcphs.smapply.io) no later than Friday, November 19th, 2021:

• Letter of intent

• Curriculum vitae

• Unofficial college transcript

• Contact information of three references for their recommendations. References will complete a recommendation form only.

Three recommendation evaluation forms must be submitted no later than Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 via the online portal. This is NOT a letter of recommendation but an online form that the reference will need to complete.

INTERVIEWS

The fellowship program will conduct interviews on a rolling basis starting mid-October with pre-screens and will conclude interviews in December. Candidates will be notified if selected for an interview.

ONSITE INTERVIEWS

Top candidates may be invited for interviews at the sponsoring company’s location pending COVID – 19 restrictions.

Final candidates will be required to go through additional screening / onboarding as required by MCPHS.

Dr. Amee Mistry is Professor of Pharmacy Practice and has been with MCPHS University since 2006. Dr. Mistry earned her PharmD at the Albany College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 Community Practice Residency with Walgreens and MCPHS University. In 2015, Dr. Mistry took over as Director of the MCPHS Biopharmaceutical Industry Fellowship program. She works directly with leaders in the area to continue to foster growth and development of the post-graduate program, and to assist the fellows in attaining positions within the pharmaceutical industry.

In addition, she is the advisor for the student IPhO chapter at MCPHS, co-advisor for APhA-ASP, a national trainer for the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization training program and is actively involved with the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association.

One-year Fellowship Program

The Global Medical Information & Review Fellowship is a one-year program designed to provide the Fellows with opportunities to develop core competencies in Medical Information. This will be accomplished while also learning about the pharmaceutical industry by working cross-functionally within Global Medical Affairs Oncology in addition to Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Safety, as well as with field-based Medical Science Liaisons. Additionally, the fellows will have the opportunity to gain valuable experiences within the broader Medical Communications teams, including Disease & Product Training, Medical Education, and Publications.

OBJECTIVES:

Medical Information is responsible for communicating relevant, timely, accurate, and balanced information on company products to healthcare professionals and patients globally. Medical Review is responsible for performing accurate and detailed scientific/medical review of non-promotional, medical affairs-generated materials within Global and US Medical Affairs, as well as promotional materials generated by the Global and US Commercial teams, as needed.

In this role the fellow is expected to:

• Become proficient in searching internal and external resources, and evaluating scientific data to develop evidence-based medical content to answer US and Global queries

• Enhance medical writing expertise and knowledge through researching, creating, updating, and reviewing materials and ensuring global consistency of Medical Information & Training resources

• Become skilled in the use of applications such as Veeva Vault, Qlik, and Medical Information Cloud

• Participate in the medical/scientific review of non-promotional materials as part of a multidisciplinary team

• Attend medical conferences and participate in Medical Information responsibilities associated with these events

• Gain a better understanding of Medical and Commercial initiatives by building relationships with cross functional colleagues through interaction with external (call center vendors) and internal US and Global teams (Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Commercial, Clinical and Pharmacovigilance) and by identifying emerging insights from customer inquiries

• Gain a comprehensive understanding of adverse events, product quality, and other important safety information

• Assist on highly visible projects, as needed

Georgios has over 12 years of experience in medical affairs and in particular he has held medical information/review roles of increasing responsibility at the local, regional and global level. Georgios graduated from the University of Birmingham in the UK with first class Molecular Genetics BSc, he then completed his PhD in Cancer Studies at the Birmingham Institute of Cancer Research, where he evaluated the role of EBV proteins in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell lines.

Rachel earned her PharmD from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. She has 5 years of industry experience working as a medical content creator and strategist in promotional medical education and sales training. She has led several launches of new indications and products in the oncology and hematology space. She is the medical reviewer on the US Review Committees for all of Takeda Oncology’s US-marketed products. Our Global Medical Information & Review fellows will have the opportunity to learn more about the promotional review process, as well as the responsibilities and contributions of medical review. They will engage with key functional stakeholders of the Review Committee including team members from Marketing, Learning & Development, Regulatory, and Legal.

As the Global Medical Information & Review fellow at Takeda, I have gained an invaluable experience in building a strong foundation in medical information and beyond. This program fosters growth by encouraging the fellow to communicate effectively, take leadership, and establish meaningful relationships. Takeda’s wide array of unprecedented cancer therapies provides the fellow immense opportunities in the oncology space. This fellowship, coupled with the incredible support from the mentorship team, has challenged me beyond my PharmD education to apply clinical knowledge and prepare for a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Global Medical Information & Review Fellowship at Takeda is educational, transforming, and rewarding. During my time here, I have immersed myself into the field of medical communications, and by doing so, I have heightened both my professional and clinical skillsets. My abilities to produce and communicate scientific information in response to queries continue to strengthen daily. The structure of the program has not only allowed me to build meaningful relationships across functional areas, but also explore the inner workings of a collaborative and successful pharmaceutical company. I have no doubt that I will describe myself as a valuable and qualified industry pharmacist by the end of this opportunity.

The Global Medical Information & Review fellowship is designed to offer an invaluable experience, exposing fellows to various functional areas in Medical Affairs, specifically rotating through Medical Information, Medical Review, and an Elective Rotation. This fellowship allows me to hone my communication skills, leadership development, and building a strong network in the pharmaceutical industry. The opportunities to work cross-functionally and collaborate with colleagues throughout Medical Affairs will truly be a rewarding experience as I embark on this fellowship journey.

GLOBAL PATIENT SAFETY EVALUATION (GPSE) Two-year Fellowship Program

With a mission to ensure patient safety, the Global Patient Safety Evaluation (GPSE) function at Takeda is responsible for pharmacovigilance (PV) activities including the detection, assessment, management, monitoring, prevention of adverse events and continuous assessment of the benefit-risk profile for all Takeda products.

Excellence in Patient Safety requires mastery of medical and scientific disciplines as well as operational excellence and compliance. The purpose of Takeda’s two-year fellowship program is to provide the fellow with in-depth training in safety risk assessment, characterization, and minimization/mitigation. Fellows work closely with experts in Pharmacovigilance, specifically with PV Scientists and Global Safety Leads, as well as with other GPSE colleagues and cross-functional groups. Fellows are dedicated to PV activities for both investigational and marketed products during the course of the fellowship and have the opportunity to rotate across therapeutic areas.

OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this program is to provide the fellow with relevant experiences, technical skills, and

development opportunities to become an effective expert in the area of Pharmacovigilance.

In this role the fellow is expected to:

• Participate and engage in cross-functional team meetings involving Clinical Sciences, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Analytical Sciences, and more

• Perform research and analyses to support risk management strategies and decisions

• Prepare and review safety sections of periodic safety update reports, risk management plans, clinical trial protocols, investigator brochures, informed consent forms, and reference safety information for investigational or marketed products

• Assist in the preparation and presentation of signal evaluations, cross-functional safety assessments, and ad hoc analyses

• Follow regulations closely and communicate findings with relevant internal stakeholders

• Contribute to GPSE external initiatives

• Lead other pharmacovigilance related activities as instructed

Celina Griffin, PharmD Associate Director, Pharmacovigilance Sciences Global Pharmacovigilance Fellowship Director

The MCPHS University Fellowship at Takeda in Global Pharmacovigilance is an extraordinary opportunity for a PharmD inspired to make a difference in the lives of patients worldwide. This is an outstanding way to gain direct industry experience in drug development and broaden the reach of PharmDs within industry. The Fellow will learn from and contribute to medical safety teams across Takeda’s therapeutic areas of focus, including oncology, rare disease and plasma derived therapies, gastrointestinal, and neuroscience. The Fellow will gain an understanding of pharmacovigilance practices and regulations, applying them to the management of patient safety and the evaluation of benefit-risk throughout the lifecycle of products in clinical development. The fellowship will offer multiple opportunities to meet with various experts in drug development, open doors, and provide exposure to a range of cross-functional activities with high visibility within Takeda.

Having the opportunity to rotate through Takeda’s many areas of focus with pre-and post-marketed products will provide me with a more comprehensive grasp of bioindustry valued skills while allowing for cross-functional collaboration. In my short time as fellow, Takeda has made working in drug safety valuable and fulfilling with its patient centric approach. MEDICAL COMMUNICATIONS – GLOBAL MEDICAL AFFAIRS ONCOLOGY Two-year Fellowship Program

The Medical Communications function is responsible for developing and delivering complex scientific and clinical information on our therapies and the diseases they treat. This is communicated in a clear and understandable manner to meet the needs of our patients, health care providers, and decision-makers in global healthcare systems. This is a two-year fellowship program that recruits on a biennial basis.

The purpose of the fellowship is to provide the fellow with in-depth experience that will help them develop core competencies in Medical Communications, as well as an understanding of the value that medical communication plays in ensuring consistent use of one scientific voice across various channels. This will be accomplished through the core rotation in Medical Communications during the entire course of the fellowship, along with further opportunities to explore additional, elective rotations in other functions depending on their availabilities. Fellows can select up to 3 rotational electives including but not limited to, Publications, Disease and Product Training, Medical Director, Patient Advocacy, Medical Education/Congresses, Medical Science Liaison, Competitive Intelligence, Commercial/Marketing, and Pharmacovigilance/Drug Safety, depending on availability. The team is looking forward to recruiting a fellow during the 2023 cycle.

Global Medical Communications OncologyNOT RECRUITING FOR 2022 - 2023

Richa Mukherjee, MSc, MPhil, PhDAssociate Director, Medical Communications LeadGlobal Medical Affairs Oncology Fellowship Director

Richa has over 15 years of industry related experience including 7 years of experience within Medical Affairs. She has expertise in leading and implementing medical communications activities in both US and Global capabilities. She completed her Master’s in Chemistry from Indian Institute of technology and MPhil in Environmental Sciences and Biochemistry from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. She obtained her PhD in Cell Molecular Biology from Boston University and finished her postdoctoral fellowship from Tufts School of Medicine.

Our 2-year fellowship in Global Medical Communications, Oncology provides a great opportunity to young and upcoming professionals to develop their skills and enhance their knowledge of the Oncology landscape and therapeutics area. Fellows will not only get an opportunity to contribute to Oncology Medical Communications but will be to be a part of the broader Global Medical Affairs team and gain understanding of the impact of this key function within a pharmaceutical company. In addition, the fellowship will provide exposure to other functions outside Global Medical Affairs and help acquiring know-how of synergistical efforts across functions with the ultimate goal of helping our cancer patients.

Jessica has over 15 years of experience in scientific & medical publications, medical communications and scientific research within academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Her expertise is in infectious diseases, vaccines, and oncology. In her current role, Jessica leads the Global Medical Affairs Oncology (GMAO) Medical communications department, a talented team of professionals who are responsible for the development and implementation of global medical communication strategies for Takeda Oncology medicines and pipeline programs. Jessica earned her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan, followed by a Postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University.

The Takeda Oncology Global Medical Information & Review and Global Medical Communications post-doctoral fellowship programs are dedicated to developing and preparing highly motivated pharmacists for a career in the pharmaceutical industry. Through these programs, fellows will gain an understanding of the medical communications core competencies and functional skills, as well as expand their professional network. During their time at Takeda, fellows become valuable contributors within their functional area, as well as the broader Medical Affairs organization, bringing fresh perspectives to the team and contributing to our commitment to bring Better Health and a Brighter Future to patients worldwide.

As the first medical communications fellow, it is an absolute honor to carve the footsteps of this fellowship program for pharmacists interested in medical affairs. The structure of this program has allowed me to gain hands-on experience within industry, network with a variety of professionals within Takeda and neighboring companies, as well as refine my academic teaching abilities. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the kindest, smartest, and talented people at Takeda, who advocate for me daily. With this position I can combine my passion for oncology and medical affairs in order to assist with deliverables in the leukemia space; and ultimately help our cancer patients in need. I am confident that this fellowship program will be monumental in providing me with the skills necessary for a successful career in the biopharmaceutical industry!
