Post clinical lesson plan: Learning outcomes: Student will learn how to use all three pain assessment tools. Students will be able utilize the best pain assessment tool for their assigned patient. Students will intervene effectively in relieving pain / discomfort in the older adult. Student will be able to evaluate response to treatment and adjust POC accordingly. Pre-clinical conference: Instructor will ensure that students understand and know how to assess, administer, and utilize all the three pain assessment scales named below. Face Pain Scale – Revised (FPS-R) Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) Verbal Descriptor Scale (VDS) Instructors asks students to describe each scale and explore their knowledge on how and when they can use each scale. Misunderstanding will be clarified. Each student will be given an assignment to use the pain assessment scale on their assigned older adult. Post Clinical conference: Each student will be given an opportunity to discuss their experiences of using the pain assessment tool(s), the intervention (if needed) & evaluation of response (5min).
