COMMANDER’S MESSAGE

November already, a time to remember our Comrades and their

service to our Nation, those that went before and sacrificed for us, each

one. We show respect by honoring them, and giving thanks for our

Freedom, Justice, and Democracy. We show respect by living the

declarations of the constitution and the laws of the land, and pledging

allegiance to our flag and Nation.

I want to thank all members of Hillsboro Post 6. Some have just

joined, some have committed to lifetime membership! Thank You!

All are welcome to participate in the Veteran’s Day activities. At the regular November

meeting we’ll be getting a “New Shot” of obligation to the community.

This month’s question: During your military service what habit did you start and are

still doing?

Bob Gnos- Commander

CHAPLAINS CORNER

After a long and unusually hot summer, fall has finally arrived and with it the return of a bit of refreshing rain. After spending a week in Southern Cal-ifornia last month, where it was in the high 80's and low 90's, returning home to the low to mid 60's was a welcome relief to say the least. October shouldn't be that hot! That said, change is constant whether we like it or not. And if you're not changing, you're not living. All of life is about change and as I grow older I find it seems to get harder to accept it, much less enjoy it. Still I wouldn't have it any other way. I certainly wouldn't want my children or grandchildren to never grow up. It is a blessing and a joy to watch them grow and mature as they change. There's an old hymn I love entitled “Abide With Me”. One of the verses in it says this: “Swift to it's close ebbs out life's little day. Earth's joys grow dim, it's glories pass away. Change and decay in all around I see; Oh Thou Who changest not, abide with me”. What a blessing to know that our Creator is always near and no matter what the change or challenge we're facing we can call on Him for comfort and help because He Never Changes. At the Post, we are gearing up for a busy Veterans Day. There will be several activities we will be involved in for much of the day. Why not come on down and spend some time with your comrades or meet some new ones. The website has a list of all the activities we'll be participating in. Check it out at : www.hillsboropost6.org May your day be filled with happiness and joy and blessings,

Lynn Hamm-Chaplain

Well , Fall is upon us. I hope that all of you have a safe and fun

Halloween.

As for our activities that are planned for November, it will be exciting.

The first Saturday is our last Saturday to have the donation poppies at

Walmart (corner of Cornelius Pass and Baseline in Hillsboro). I would like to take this time to

thank Joanne O. and Lynn H. for stepping up on our first Saturday at Walmart. The second

Saturday will be the 2 Debbies at Walmart. I also would like to thank whoever will be taking

the third and fourth Saturdays because I will be out of town.

The first Saturday is our Hot Dog - Hamburger night along with Bingo. I am not sure

who will be calling Bingo, but I hope that you will have a good time.

November 11, 2017, Is Veterans Day. The same as last year, we will be at the Veterans

Park at the Gateway at 11:00 am and travel to Cornelis to their Veterans Park for their pro-

gram.

To finish up the month, we will be having our Early Bird Dinner for all members who

have paid their dues for 2018. That dinner is your reward for paying your dues early. The din-

ner will be a fantastic turkey dinner with all the goodies. The members that have paid will be

able to bring a guest or two. The price for all persons whose dues are not paid will be $10.00,

payable at the door.

Please call me at (310) 502-3991 anytime for more information. Until next month,

LOUNGE UPGRADES

Big changes have happened in the lounge area at Hillsboro Post 6. The lounge now has new sheet-rocked walls. The walls have been textured and painted to make the room more inviting.

Plans are in the works to re-do the popcorn ceiling and to replace carpeting.

If you would like to help donate time or funds to this

worthy cause, let us know.

HELP A VETERAN; DONATE AIR MILES!

Veterans who are attending NVCAF for the first time are provided free

airfare courtesy of Hero Miles, a program of Fisher House. Flights are made possible through

frequent flyer miles donations made by individuals. More miles are needed! What a great way

to serve the ALA mission by donating your extra frequent flyer miles to Hero Miles. It’s sim-

ple to do online. Hero Miles works with many airline companies: American, Alaska, Delta,

Frontier, and United; just check the following link to learn how to donate miles. Help veterans

get to NVCAF by donating your miles at this website, or contact the Post Auxiliary for details.

DONATIONS NEEDED We are looking for donations to fund the replacement of all the windows in the Post

building. Our windows are old and we need to replace them to save energy, which will save us funds on heating and cooling. The estimated cost for replacement is $10,000.00 parts and

labor. If you would like to donate please send a check or money order to: Hillsboro Post No. 6 American Legion

285 W. Main St. Hillsboro, OR 97123
