First Speaker

Good morning ladies and gentlement. First of all, I would like to say thank you to the moderator for the time given to me. On this time, we would like to explain about friendship between teachers and students. Before that, I will introduce my team from the positive side. My name is Kharisma Maria as the first speaker. I will describe the definition of friendship between teachers and students, explain about how friendship between teachers and students can happen, and deliver our opinion about the case. She is Ekky Novia as second speaker, she will argue against the arguments of the first speaker from negative side and she will deliver her arguments to support our team. Then Muhammad Doddy as the third speaker will repeat the first and second speaker`s arguments and make a conclusion from our team`s arguments.

Now I will start the debate with the definition of friendship between teachers and students.

During the lessons, we need to build a good relationship betweeen teachers and students. In normal condition, teachers act like parents when students take his or her own time in a school life. But, there will be a different case if there is a special relationship called “ friendship “.

The problem is : Can friendship between teachers and students improve the learning?

This situation can happen because the teachers have unique characters, easy going, and still have youth spirit. So, every students will fit and feel comfort when they have closer with teachers.

Teacher-student friendships can help extend classroom . The policy could strip teachers of the ability to set up a social media site that works as an extension of the classroom. As technology becomes more important in professional and personal lives, our education system is often several steps behind. Exclusive teacher-student communications have edu value "We argue that a student struggling with 'Hamlet,' for instance, misses a learning opportunity when he or she sees a teacher on IM and can't send a message. Or a student who is too shy to raise his hand in class might prefer to email his teacher, but might not feel comfortable knowing his parents or a member of the administration might be reading the email as well.

Second speaker :

Thank you for the moderator to give me chance to explain my arguments from positive side.

Reply speech :

The negative side said that the teachers is not a friend but an authority figure. The meaning of friend to our team is not someone we can ask to play or something like that, but

someone who can talk with us comfortably, without any afraid or awkward feeling, and someone who can help students if they have problem, in this condition of course athe problem is connected with school. So, the students can study more effective.

Our team agree that the vast majority of teachers are using social media very appropriately and effectively in our state. Teachers need to connect with students in their virtual world. We have known that high school students live in a virtual world these days and if we cut direct and private contact in this area is a bad idea. Because that is how teachers communicate with students outside school.

The number one technology that students use outside school is social networking site, such as twitter, faceboook, tumblr, etc. This is the technology they are going to as their one-stop shop for communication. It`s their email, their bulletin board, their online photo album, it`s where they do their writing. It`s a place where they express what are they feel about something, what are they like or what are they dislike. It can show their personality. If the teachers can build friendship with students, teachers can understand well about their students personality. From this teachers have good method to teach their students because they have understand about each student`s personality, If teachers have many students, of course their students have many different personality, and its better if teacher teach their students according to each personality.

For that reason, we argued that limiting communication between teachers and students only furthers the gap betweeen a students in school life and his or her life outside of school.

Third speaker :

Thank you for moderator to give me time.

From the arguments that have been explain by first and second speaker, we are as the positive team believe that the friendship between teachers and students is okay to improve learning method. It has many advantages for students also teachers, there is :

1. Teacher-student friendships can help extend classroom .

2. Friendship betweeen students and teachers can make students who too shy to raise her or his hand in class easier to do her or his task and homework because they can send it via email.

3. Teachers have good method to teach their students because they have understand about each student`s personality, so the ways of teachers teach are different according each student`s personality.

So, we can conclude that it has many advantages because of friendship betweeen teachers and students. We are as the positive team still support the friendship between teachers and students.

Negative side

First Speaker :

Thank you for the time given by the chair person. I am Prima Rizky as the first speaker from the negative side, our team disagree with statement “the teachers – students friendship can improve learning. And Nurul Almira as the second speaker will present about the gap should exist between students and teachers, and Muhammad Ridlo as the third speaker will strengthen our arguments.

I must say that I disagree with the first speaker from positive side, because we think despite all of the advantages that has been explain it has a massive negative impact for the teachers and students. With teachers students friendship, students will consider that their teachers is like their friend. The students also can treat their teachers as their friend in their ages.

As the first speaker from the positive side said that the students who too shy to raise her or his hand in class might prefer to email their children. In the real life, it will has a bad effect for that students. It will make them lack of confidence and make that students doesn`t have a leadership whereas in the reality confidence and leadership is the most important thing to get involve in a communnity, and in their age, the students should develop their leadership skill. So we can say that teachers-students friendship from media (such as email) can make the students far from sociality.

Next, another negative impact is, it will relieve teachers as an authority figure, students will treat their teachers as their pal and won`t honour them as an authority figure and a mentor who must keep a respectful emotional and social distance. For us, teachers shouldn`t agree to join a students list of social media`s friends, engage in texting or other electronic communication that could cast suspicion on the teachers students relationship. So, teachers role in school will have more impact for students and also makes the students to honour someone who give effect in their educaton.

Second speaker

First of all, thank you for the time given by the chair person, I am Nurul Almira as the second speaker will deliver our team’s arguments.

Reply speech :

The positive team said that teachers are able to know student’s life outside of school or student’s virtual life on the other hand, if in that condition the students are able to know teacher’s private life. Whereas, the student don’t have rights to know teacher’s life. The positive side also said it’s better if teachers teach their students according to each personality. Our team thing that their arguments is difficult to do because of the number of the students in a school and not many teacher understand about how to treat each student with their personality.

Third speaker

Thank you for the time given to me. Iam Muhammad Ridlo as the third speaker from the negative team will give conclusions and support our team’s arguments with some provement.

The conclusion :

From the arguments that have been explain by first and second speaker, we are as the negative side still believe that the friendship between teachers and students is not good enough.

And I have some reasons why our team still keep our opinion

1. I think “friendship between teacher and student” can underestimate teacher’s role. Because in this case, usually student treat their teacher as their friend. There’s no honour between student and teacher.

The example : in school X , I found that there’s a teacher named Mrs. Z who has her official account twitter and facebook. every student will add her as their friend in the unreal world (or in twitter land we call it “follow button” ). The student will read her post everyday and always know her daily activity.

2. Friendships between teacher and student will cause another negative effect. I agree with Nurul’s opinion . the special relationship between them can cause some cheats. For example : theacher wiil give better score for the student who has special relationship with him / her than another student.

So we can conclude that ther’s so many disadvantages between teacher and student when they build a relationship called friendship.
