POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH PARENTSBy Gita Deonaraine-Sahadeo
THE IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
Jesus valued children and found them to be an important combination to society. God expects parents (and other adults/teachers in a child's life) to teach their children (What Does the Bible Say About Teaching Children?, 2014).
According to Kenneth Moore (2014), parents are children’s first teachers and they have the right and need to be our educational partners in preparing their children to become contributing members to our global society.
The experts have been polled and the results are in: a positive parent-teacher relationship contributes to your child’s school success(Good Parent Teacher Relationship Benefits a Child’s Progress, 2013)! The encouragement and support for the child’s progress produce academic benefits and kids have a more positive attitude. In today’s hurried world, taking time to know the people who are educating the future generation is difficult, but more important than ever. Barriers such as limited time, lack of transparency in correspondence and direction need to be addressed.

Both the parent and teacher have relevant information to help each other understand the student better. By working as a team , they can get true picture and create an instructional plan , suitable for the student’s needs. Commitment and shared responsibility is the key to the successful of this relationship. In addition to this, developing a positive relationship gives both parties a sense of academic security concerning the student(The Parent-Teacher Partnership, 2014).
